I have ideas of a Hunter cockpit, can anyone point me in a direction to source one? Or a Harrier?

    Ollie,

I advise you to think carefully about this.

Have you visted the International Cockpit Club ?

You need to think about finance, parts availability, storage, the physical sze of a cockpit, how to move it around (you cant lift a Lightning canopy yet alone the nose), then transport such as car trailers, tow vehicles with grunt, flat bed trucks, HIAB’s etc, etc…

My more recent arrival cost 150% more to transport than the acquistion price !!

There was a Hunter T.7 offered on this very forum recently for £500, but for that price it was pretty much devoid of everything. Also much discussion over cockpits offered on eBay such as the Canberra PR.9 for £3k.

Or how about a commercial cockpit vendor such as Gary Spoors ?

    Clicky here LankyTim…..

    Cockpits for sale

In comparison, the last two (restored/complete) Hunter cockpits that came up for sale privately where £3000+, as was the late Mike Doyles JP3 cockpit sold via Flypast…again £3K+.

There are very few Harriers in private hands yet alone being restored (see the threads ‘Preserved Harriers’ , ‘Harriers in Museums’ and ‘2-seat Harrier pictures’ ), but as it happens one owner is considering throwing in the towel for an easier project.

So if you have at least £3-4K spare, i can put you in touch with him.

    Chose wisely my son.
Let the HIAB be with you…

Was this the one that nent to Noth Cotes then on to Sadtoft?

Yes, indeed it is. And much discussed on here. Just search for threads with Sandtoft in them 😀

I believe it is now in Brussels ?

More to the point, where can you track down a cockpit? I’d love a chipmunk cockpit to restore but haven’t a clue where to start looking!

I know of one, at only a few hundred quid.

PM me for details and photo’s, but strictly no tyre kickers.

    Cheers….

Still no response to whether the SHAR was the ex-Booker one though? 😮

No, on the contrary, Mr Zoot’s post #11 correctly ascertained that it was with Mr Halletts collection at FAST, Farnborough.

For info’, ZA195 is not the only SHAR you can play chess on ! 😀

    Dave,
Not too much around is there something you were after?

    Pete,

We briefly discussed this via PM, but you didn’t reply to my last, and i’ve since taken on another (tut) cockpit section so i’ll pass at present thanx.

Unless i can find out what is really happening with Gloster collection and their Oxford treasure trove, 😀

    😎

Cheers Les, hopefully somebody has some pictures ‘cos Google ain’t got much !!

If only that print were an xmas card… 🙁

I was slightly stumped by the fact i could not see the 2 outboard props but then i could not find anything with twin booms and a single mid mounted engine.

…hummm, aeroplane on fire ditches in sea at speed.

Now, i wonder where those props (and starboard engine) could be ? :diablo:

    Thanks Mr G

No mention of airframe departures so i presume its either to raise some cash or trim the collection for a smaller building ?

    Or both perhaps ?

Had a little too much sharaz, plus a week of day shifts, mrs lav went to bed leaving me fast on ,on the sofa.
When i awoke or was it a dream, lightning cockpits im sure i saw a canberra too. What the hell was i seeing?
    dave……………

Yep, i spied a Canberra plus maybe six Lightnings ?

Maybe one day, somebody will step up to the mike and give the full low down on how, where, which, what, when etc….

I seem to recall that one was cut in half, but one enterprising cockpit collector managed to join it up again.

Where-o-where are the BAC Lightnings experts when you need one ?

I thought Hanningfields had to close & move out sometime around now (end 2005) ?

If true, is that why they have a sudden rash of sales on ebay over the past months ?

    Anyone….?
