There is another ex playground TBM rotting in a garden in the suburbs of Auckland.
It is also mentioned in the Classic Wings article with a photo.

No thats the same one, go back and read the text.

The shot was taken ~before~ it moved to the Auckland area.

DaveM2…. just to prove its the same one i/we would love the see the photo, so PM duly sent. 😀

Dave T, yes the Avenger is owned by and stored at Motat. Foir some years it stood ouside at Dairy Flat but it is now apparently in a back shed at Motat being restored ready to include in the displays of their upcoming hangar expansion – that’s what I was told last May by a curator there.

Oh that is good news. Does anybody have any pictures please ?

In Classic Wings Vol 6 No.3 (circa 1999) theres an articles on TBM Avengers downunder.

Theres a photo of a derilict TBM fuselage (NZ2539) ex-kiddies plaything, in the Auckland area.

Anybody (Dave Homewood ?) know if its still rotting away or has found a good home yet ?

Have you seen the Harrier instrument panel on ebay. I think there are few instruments as well.

Oh yes indeedy… although I have one myself, the info’ has been passed to the rest of the very unofficial Harrier cockpit owners co-operative.

Although any and all leads to Harrier parts internal and external are most welcome.

    Cheers…….. 😉

PS. Cracking photos by the way 😀

Although you can only say that the buyer has been very nieve as I understand it it is illegal to sell something in this country without informing the buyer of any known defects, of which this has plenty!

Yes fair comment, but would you buy a £15K item from eBay without going to kick the tyres first ?

And its not as though the pubs in Kent or the Shetlands or Timbucktoo either. Surely he could have gone to view it just the same as Joe Public can ?

Although i seem to recall the bidding going a bit silly and a lot of bids and bidders subsequently cancelled, and bidders thereafter being vetted.

I wonder what criteria Mr Bateson saw in Mr Ollerenshaw, to allow his bid to stand…?

Maybe, because he wasn’t that far away and ~assumed~ he would come & view it before auction close.

Well i just reviewed the actual eBay auction, and its says “As is, where is”, plus the new owner is an eBay beginner, so i think the seller is correct.

Shame its gone to the ‘no win-no fee’ brigade, however eBay always claims such sales are a legally binding contract.

With this very public case, it’ll be interesting to see just how binding

    Would you recognise him ?

    Yep, thats him.

He owns Eaglescott, plus a majority share in the Chipmunk there, plus a static Hunter rotting on the gate.

He also owned several Hunters at Exeter including G-BWFT, but i’m told his partnership (beit financial or otherwise) with Hunter Flying Club has since disolved.
