Honestly it could be a range of aircraft as the only gauge that was inherent to the Spit was the elusive Nose up/down guage….
And the 37 gallons fuel gauge 🙂

It seems to me that we take the business more serious than they did during wartime.
I was often confronted with strange adaptions which were not common especially regarding Luftwaffe panels.
When I asked the persons who had been involved these days they simply answered “We didn´t care, it was war”.
As example the Heinkel He 219 Uhu had an ASI going to 1000 km/h even it only reached 670 km/h.

Herbert
My research goes that Mk I and II had the +8, Mk V and IX the +16 and Mk XIV onwards +20 to 24.

Hello Jonny
Does your grip have a break lever?
If not, then it might not be a Hurricane.

At least they are still cheaper than the Luftwaffe Revis.
They start with GBP 600,- even a lot are around and in my opinion, they are only a simple box with a glass.

Herbert
Ah, didn´t know that.
Cheers,
Herbert
You´re too right. 🙁
It´s also that internet and eBay makes the collector´s life easier but also one sided.
You don´t have to visit the aerojumbles anymore because the good pieces will be sold by eBay. That´s boring.
Herbert
Hello TT
You are right, but all three are partly damaged and incomplete.
I once had a nice KG 13A. It was complete, missing only one small screw.
Two years I was running around to get a correct screw but I couldn´t find.
“Linsenkopfschrauben” are veeeery rare these days.
So I save my money for a complete one.

Herbert
An interesting fact is, that early Corke Spit panels obtained original U/C indicators. And the panels went complete for GBP 400,- 😮
Ah, these old times
Corke also had original Hurricane U/C indicators before he started to use the repros. What a shame, I only need ONE.
I always wonder about the owners of airworthy Spits and Hurris.
They need airworthy spare parts so maybe they are sitting on boxes of original nose up downs and similar. 😉

Oh look at this……….

Looks like he bought it of our very own Herbert for a mere £99 😮
.
Hello detectives 🙂
I may explain:
During the auction of the oxygen regulator I found out, that he had a minty Hurricane fuel gauge using it for his Spit panel. I was lucky that he was so kind to agree a swap with some of my spare items.
You might know, a correct Hurricane fuel gauge might be rarer than the Spit ones.

Herbert
Well, that sounds terrific! I would be interested.
All the best,
Herbert
Hello Graham
As far my knowledge goes, the 480MPH started with Spit Mk V, refering also the pilot notes, which show a very early, maybe pre-production Mk V.
When they started to produce them 1939 so it seems, they were thinking about an aircraft, that would need it.
But I guess, no aircraft was flying more than 400MPH that time.
This reminds me of a boost gauge going to +20lbs, which was produced 1940 but first time needed about 1943 with the Griffon Mk XIV powered Spits.
Kind regards,
Herbert
Oh well I found this one.Might be Ok…
It´s true that the sim builders are getting more accurate but most of them are using one kind of airspeed indicator or vertical speed indicator etc. for all kind of aircrafts, like we have here.
So to be on the correct side you can´t trust them.

Herbert
Hello Elliott
I´ve studied the Ju 88 panels and have quite a lot of pictures and lists of instrumentation.
Will contact you by PM

Herbert
Should have got this one then!
If you are able to restaurate, you could make good money with a relic like that.
