So explain to me how passing laws to restrict gun ownership by the 0.00066% who commit crimes with guns is going to stop ONE nutter from doing something along the lines of Newtown again?
It’s the same as suggesting that passing laws to restrict sober people from owning a car is going to help prevent drunk driving.

& now the anti’s are skewing the figures for “mass shootings” to include drivebys where 1 person shoots at a crowd of 3 or more people even if no one is actually hit.. Mass shootings such at Columbine & Newtown are incredibly rare events.

If ‘controlling’ the blasting to pieces of six year old children is seen as a bad thing then there really is something very sick about a society.

It’s going to be difficult, if not impossible to discuss gun control without getting into politics.. but having said that…

I don’t recall mention anything about blasting 6yo’s….. The liberals DO want to preserve life, so long as it’s a life that has been sentenced to death & waiting in prison, unborn ones don’t count, but that’s an entirely different kettle of fetuses. The other side want to preserve the unborn & execute the murderers.

The gist of that seems to be “Oh, don’t exaggerate, gun crime isn’t such a big problem as, say, poisonings or drownings” But whereas any sane society does all it can to minimise those risks, all the gun lobby seems to do is duck the issue or advocate even more use of guns in society, ie putting them in schools for God’s sake. As I’ve said here before (and no one has yet contradicted me) it seems America as a whole accepts these continual massacres as a price worth paying for keeping their lethal toys.

Swimming pools are also *lethal toys*. The latest uproar by the left about the NRA suggestion of armed guards in schools is laughable. They thought it was great idea when Bill Clinton suggested it. It’s pure two-faced politics & has NOTHING to do with what happened in Newtown.
Most gun owners are very responsible, I go shooting with several friends, I also have a couple of friends who because they were idiots when they were younger won’t be able to even touch a gun or ammo for the rest of their lives. They sometimes show up at the gun range & run the BBQ we take with us.

Moggy, you’re right. The urge to yell it’s nothing to do with us must be strong. Just as the urge is strong within us to comment on the senselessness and waste we see because of an archaic Amendment to a Constitution which came into force when America was a nascent and largely lawless Nation. Maybe it’s media, maybe it’s just perception, but the overwhelming thing that seems to come across to us is that the rights of the individual to bear arms far outweighs any legal, ethical or moral considerations of the rights of those who fall victim to the likes of Adam Lanza.

You’re on to something when you mention the media. From where I’m sat (there’s a .40 S&W in the desk drawer & a Mossberg 590 just a few feet away) there’s no way in hell I’d ever go back to the UK because it’s a LOT more dangerous than the US when it comes to overall violent crime.
It’s nice to see the ban on knives in public has lead to no one being stabbed since it’s introduction… oh wait.. There was that slight fracas in Holloway Rd the other day by some bloke with the samurai sword, perhaps another law banning knives that are already illegal is in order?;)
