They certainly (and notoriously) accepted major aircraft parts and sections that were not interchangeable throughout W.W.II. How much that was an unnecessary requirement is another discussion perhaps.
Regards,
Take a part off one Hurricane & try to fit it to another one….
& then we have that wonderful invention: The slot shaped fastener hole…
As for Buick blocks, I think Tom Cruises P51 had one. (or possibly 2). At least I think it was his P51, I kind of lose track.
I just hope the Demon stays here. Is it of any real interest to the Americans? .
Well… Kermit could always buy it & add it to his growing collection of grounded non flying hangar queens…;)
Jim’s obit has been posted:

Also while travelling down I was passed by a French van and trailer carrying a wing. Light blue, damaged and with a wing tank. Any ideas?
Skyraider parts going home?

This is apparently Dagenham during WWII. Anyone good at spotting part machined Merlin pistons?
They look extremely *tall* for Merlin pistons
I think I would prefer my Merlin big ends bolts machined, or thread rolled, by a fully skilled and time served operator. 🙂
Mark
All the high quality bolts are thread rolled, Couldn’t find some for a couple of R2800 installations several years ago so went to the local surplus aircraft hardware shop (where they are sold by the lb), got some that were too long, had them cut down to length, thread rolled, plated & all the heat treating, certified etc. They started off at about 40c each… the final price made your head spin.
The mounts haven’t fallen off yet, so I guess they knew what they were doing 😉
These were then constructed, packaged and sent to a Rolls Royce plant where they were de-constructed, examined, X-Rayed and re – constructed before being placed in a Spitfire/Lancaster/Mosquito.
That doesn’t make any sense whatsoever, there was a war on, no ****** is going to waste time building the same engine twice….
Personally I wouldn’t mind an ‘Antiques Roadshow’ approach the experts give a history or value to an object then it’s up to the owner if he/she/they want to sell it else where. The experts here can share some of the vast knowledge that’s on this forum. Might also uncover lost aero artifacts – so who’s goning to be Arthur Negus?
So what does a Spitfire mainwheel go for these days? (PA908 in this case)
Edit:
It’s a family posession and I would never part with it 😉
Peter I have deleted that post above yours, but in our continuing discussion amongst the Mods we have been of the opinion that most posters are contributing positively.

Except now it looks like he was replying to my post 😉
As far as I know, no names of spectator casualties have been released to the public, so it is impossible for the common person to know how to get money to their families… much less who needs the money and who doesn’t.
Unless there has been a “victim’s assistance fund” set up, there is no way any donations could reach those who need them.
Therefore, the only person identified (and thus available to donate to) is Jimmy’s family.
Understand now?
11 names have been released & a link to a fund is here:

Flaming heck, 23500 rpm on a Lycoming? What sort of fuel were you using as I can only get 2,400 out of mine!
That would be the PT6 turbine powered TriPacer 😉
