Airfield full??? I’ve never heard of that happening at a US show. I’m not even sure they have a “capacity”? Or were they refering to car parks, not actual people?
Thank you
Bruce perhaps my point was a little lost, I did do a search and all I came up with was people moaning about this and that and taking pot shots at TFC. I just thought if everyone stopped talking in riddles the rather pathetic moaning mini’s of this world would have nothing to lower the tone with. 🙁
I gave up giving a toss about it after I asked a pilot* at a US airshow last year “so who owns it now?” & he went off in a rant about all sorts of completely unrelated crap. I just walked away & left him still ranting & raving like a complete frigging idiot.
*Not anyone who has flown it, owned it, actually worked on it or connected with Chino/Duxford… He just happened to be stood next to it…
If TFC were to purchase any aircaft next exept from the P-40f what aircraft would you most like it to be?
*any*???
Hawker Typhoon.. 😉
To paraphrase MP….
Bring me …… a rockery!

& mindboggling 16 seconds…
That’s the Tigercat, taken at VNY a couple of years back 🙂
Not all TFC pilots are naturals, some require additional lessons…

Not forgetting my kid… LOL!

ok, here’s a rare one:
Rolly Beaumont… 20+ years ago in the Beech Barron with Nick Grey…. I seem to recall some journos in the back who didn’t fair so well doing the photo op flight. I think there may have been a dogfight with the P47 or Hellcat & the Barron at some point…
I cannot see where the obsession with allowing it to go abroad is coming from! It was built in Britain – helped in the development of the type into UK military service and the only place where it is truly relevant is in the U.K .
So whilst the arguement stands that money is money – its also perfectly valid that an ATC unit which is funded by the RAF should have some understanding of the relevance of one of the RAF’s aircraft and maybe a desire for it to be displayed in the country were its most apt.
How about if a Brit ex-pat buys it & takes it out of the country?:diablo:
WOW i didn’t know that theer are that many. And can all of them fly any aircraft of theer fleet
I think Pardue only flew the P47 on one occassion?
Did Clay Lacy fly the Tigercat while it was at Duxford before JC bought it? Guess I should ask him..
I’ve flown in various warbird and civilian aircraft (including gliders) and never been given a parachute. Either I wouldn’t be able to get out (P51 back seat with not enough room to bail out)
Easy enough to get out of a P51 backseat after the canopy has been jettisoned…
The Boss, Nick Grey, Hoof, Lee Proudfoot, Jack Brown, Howard Pardue, Baggers, Fitz, Johnny Allison (outstanding sense of humour), Steve Hinton, Paul Day, Carl Scholl, John Romain, Carl Schofield, Pete Jarvis(?) John Larcombe
& others I’m sure will appear shortly…
Rescues completed
The first ballistic recovery parachutes were on the market in 1982, and the first deployment was in 1983. Between then and April 2007, over 225 people were aboard 201 aircraft which deployed BRS parachutes; most of whose lives were presumably saved by those parachute deployments.[3]Thank you for that link it’s made a interesting read, any warbirds have this fitted and if not why not?
It increases the insurance premiums if you have one fitted. Basically down to people dropping the aircraft into remote areas instead of concentrating on actually flying it to the nearest airport…. Apparently insurance companies don’t like it when some pilot chap drops his expensive toy into the middle of a National Forest because the chip light flickered a bit…
However, on the subject of fighter-type seat pack ‘chutes, flying back Ryanair from Prestwick to Beauvais and carrying on a seat-type parachute (1940 dated!!) as my hand luggage to stow in the overhead locker was fun! I’d have loved to have captured the other passengers faces on film. Priceless!
SouthWest Airlines flight as parachute is stuffed into the overhead….
Little old lady in next seat asks “Whats that?”
Reply: “A parachute, didn’t they give you one?” :dev2::dev2::dev2::dev2::dev2:
