Fine, but as they get older and retire, with the reduction of new RAF engineers learning as used to happen, they will end up with a skills deficit due to the lost turnover of manning..

One of the problems with earning a decent crust on old aircraft is that you’re in competition with countless others who are willing to do it for free. I got laid off from one place while a group of 3 or 4 volunteers took 6 frigging months to do a job that should have taken one guy 2 weeks… & when they were finished the aircraft still had the exact same damn problem they were alledgedly fixing.
The owner of the aircraft got exactly what he *paid for*…

One passed overhead while I was driving near BWI Airport in 1999. It made a distinctive sound that’s hard to describe, rather like the flapping sound we made when we were kids by putting a baseball card in a bicycle’s spinning spokes.
They sound like the old Portsmouth – IOW hovercraft.
