Also piping hydraulic hoses etc. Also im sure there is the problem with shelf life to some extent with parts made and a “used by date” to be used.

We made a bunch of coolant pipes for Merlins by making up new (stainless) pipes, taking a bunch of scrap/damaged (brass) originals, removing the Avimo fittings from the ends & silver soldering them to the new pipes. We didn’t make them for sale as it was a contract with an engine shop so they all went to the same place.
There was also talk of having a machine shop knock up a bunch of avimo fittings in the future which would be fairly simple once the cutters had been made.

Met a guy in the 80’s whose entire business consisted of filling a Ford Transit with bicycles in Cambridge, driving them to Oxford where he sold them at the local auction…. Then he would fill the van with bicycles in Oxford & drive them back to Cambridge & sold off at the auction there…Said he used to put a small spot of paint on the bicycles so that he didn’t bring back ones he’d already stolen…

& talking of Cambridge, I was introduced to the game of “ESL carnage” by a math student from Trinity. Basically what you do it step briskly off the pavement directly in front of a horde of foreign students on a pack of bicycles. Then leap out of the way at the last second, points awarded for most unseated cyclists & disabled bikes in the ensuing pile up.

Ever see those *8* coaches on the bicycles riding along the tow path with the strap on megaphones stuck to their faces? A well timed nudge as they go past would result in them inhaling HUGE quantities of the river… Megaphones make damn fine funnels…. especially when the guy wearing it has his gob wide open screaming obscentities as he goes careening off the tow path 😉

I miss Cambridge sometimes 🙂

He never owned a Mustang…but I’m fairly sure he no longer flies at least as PIC. He is 87.

Bud Anderson would fly Jack Roush’s Mustang(s) but I’m not sure he does that any longer. He is 88.

I’m pretty sure Bud stil flies…. & even if Yeager owned an aircraft I doubt he would be able to find anyone to work on it…

If you use GE & look to the west of Groom Lake you can see all the nuke craters.
