My poor old Dad has Alzhiemers now, I cant take him flying, I cant take him to Airshows, he can no longer read, but worst of all, we can no longer ‘talk aeroplanes’
    Steve

Take him to legends, you may be pleasently surprised. My grandfather died in ’92 at the age of 96. His last couple of years he didn’t reconised any family members etc & my mother got a nurse in to look after him. She was Yugoslavian.
One day my mother went in to see how he was & found him talking to the nurse in Turkish about his experiences at Gallipoli/Dardenelles.
No one in the family even knew he could speak Turkish… & apparently he hadn’t spoken it since coming home from WWI…

The Hurri-bomber flew again last Friday – just fyi 🙂

In no small part thanks to my amazing, possibly Oscar worthy, skill with the forklift at Van Nuys a couple of weeks ago 😎

(you’re not buying this for one second are you? 🙁 )

Nice to see Ozplane getting in there with the inevitable question! 🙂

However, Good Vibs, if you can get to Chino around the middle weekend of May each year, I suspect you’ll find the closest thing to legends on that side of the Atlantic [purposely ignoring an entire continent in between!]

IMHO, they run a close second to Legends [and are much easier to get to if you just happen to have finished work in Tucson.]

    G’day 😉

    Chino this year:
Me: If it was 30degrees cooler it would be just like Flying legends…
Steve Hinton SnR: FIFTY degrees cooler..:D

Where were the 3 fragged engines sourced? old time O/H’s in a can or more recently by one of the radial shops? & if so, which one?

I may be wrong here, but I believe it may be Treason to refer to Spitfire parts in “mm” 😉

I assume you’re an expert on B17s and know better than a team who have kept one in the air for 30+ years. I look forward to seeing your B17 at legends.

Elly and her team do a fantastic job and I’m proud to support them as a member.

    Peter

3 engine failures in how many hours? It has hardly flown at all since the first one went bang so the other 2 failures must be fairly low hours.

& yes, they *did* a fantastic job up until that first one fragged itself, but 3 failures is WAY beyond bad luck.

The first was the wayward nut that looked like it was wedged in the oil screen, but what caused the second? I’m not even going to guess at the third.

The PR11 I worked on for Wright Patt had a thermite grenade on the right side of the cockpit.

    Hurri Bomber MK 11b

The key elements required to return her to flight are on schedule and we are still confident of returning to the skies within the next 4 weeks. Engine has been rebuilt and looking great and other core components that were removed for checking ready to be re-assembled onto the airframe. We are all really excited and looking forward to flying all our remaining commitments in the season, starting at Yeovilton on 11th July 2009. She will be resplendent with her 250lb dummy bombs attached and our season culminates in a trip to a major show in Germany in September. Must be some irony in there somewhere

At approx 2pm PST I loaded a rather long crate onto a FedEx truck at Van Nuys & was told the crate will be on the ground at North Weald “by 10.30 am”.. I’m assuming that was also PST as a quick calc revealed that left about 12 hours between the truck leaving here for LAX & the box being in your hands.. a bit of a stretch methinks.. altho I could be wrong about that & they really did mean 10.30 Zulu.
    So, test flight on Thursday?

    Rick.
