In a related matter:
Lockheed made P38s in that hangar during WWII & later some kind of jet, I forget which. The hangar next door has 5 A3D’s parked outside belonging to Raytheon Flight Test.
I’ll take some more pics tomorrow, the former TFC Tigercat, a T28 & an Albatross are parked at the other end of the hangar….
There’s one of those on the ramp at Van Nuys. It’s not officially owned by anyone & has been used by just about everyone on the field involved in warbirds at one time or another…. Saw it parked in front of some itty bitty Cessna last week…
I’ve heard that the problem’s been tracked down to the NOS bearings that were used. Hopefully the engines will last a little longer next time they’re fitted.
I recall a pic of a rather large bolt where it shouldn’t have been in one of the oil screens?
I think that was from the 2nd engine failure last year?
The last time i went to Hendon about 6 months ago i did notice how dusty some aircraft are including the Lancaster and the German aircraft in the BofB hall, can dust have any detrimental effects on aircraft?
I remember about 20 years ago at Dx some very high ranking RAF bloke asking if the IWM intended to plant spuds in the dust on top of the Vulcan..
