There are going to be more than one or two people with useless RIAT tickets for tomorrow who may well go to Legends instead. I would think the Brunters mob would jump at any chance to show off XH558 to the proles. Now imagine someone called up TFC & said “would you mind awfully if we did a quick fly past?” .. I hardly think the TFC crew are going to say “no, ****** off, no jets”.. & then next week someone mentions that the Vulcan *could* have done a quick fly by but they decided not to because some blithering anorak might have complained a bit.. If I was the guy who told em to ****** off I would imagine that quite a few people who were at FL would be a tad peeved at my narrowbloodymindedness?

According to the TFC Blog, the Belle will be flying out from Duxford shortly to overfly Lavenham, Thorpe Abbots, Horham and Framlingham, no doubt a few others will be added to the list as well, well some of them virtually touch each other in this part of the world.

100% not from that Hurricane. Sorry! Where did he get it from? Yes, there are other kinds of fabric material on Hurricanes but this is not doped. This looks a bit like the woven asbestos material which is commonly found. I suppose, with a bit of leeway thrown in for whoever the vendor is, the survival of a bit of asbestos might make sense from what was a fireball of a Hurricane. But…….!

I’ll tell ya what it looks like to me…. When I went to school in Pompey all the kids used WWII army backpacks or gas mask bags from Ben Grubbs on the Mile End Rd. That material looks exatly like the stuff used to make the backpacks. Maybe we need a former Desert Rat to ID it?

As you drive along the coast from Tregantle towards Seaton & Downderry from the East the road kind of *plummets* down the cliff face, around a (R.H.) hairpin & you enter the village. The flat area to your left between the road & the beach is where the radar masts were & there’s an old concrete structure left standing. When I lived there the local rockband used it to practice in as no one could hear them (which was a good thing, I’d heard them).
There is a road off to the right & the tunnel entrance is on the left side of that road, HUGE green doors. It used to be hidden by the undergrowth, but was easy to spot if you looked in the right place.
