I was in the right place at the right time…. Now I can’t escape…. 🙁
AND!! I’m really regretting it today because I impaled a kneecap on the business end of an M2 sticking out the leading edge of a P51 yesterday. I may have invented a couple of new words…
Technically would have thought it was relatively straight forward however sure there are some potential pitfalls.
Read on here in the past that taking one apart with a view to moving and rebuilding it opens a real can of worms. IIRC once dismantled it in effect becomes a new build and has to comply with all modern construction and safety standards. Whereas if you leave it as is then it doesnt – work that one out…..?

“eh? WTF are you talking about? This ‘ere Nissen hut has been here since the bloody war!.. we just smartened it up a bit!”
& then watch them try to prove otherwise…;)
Yup, & the fabric surfaces were all recovered.
What on earth is the point of hanging the rudder on it when it will have to be removed again for covering etc???? I could see it being a “dry fit” to make sure it fits, but that only takes a few minutes..
Yup 🙂 In fact the inside of it still smells exactly like Duxford.
Slightly off-topic but on the subject of documentaries and adverts has anybody else noticed the habit of repeating three minutes of a documentary either side of an advert break?
Just be thankful you’re not in the US, some programs have ad breaks every 4-5 minutes & repeat almost eveything from the previous segment leaving only 1 minute of new stuff.. which gets added to the repetition after the next break. They even run the exact same ad back to back THREE times…
Looks like a Lockheed JetStar with two engines (per the prototype …but I don’t think the prototype wasn’t painted like that).
Or possibly the later Lockheed FanStar (?) project… & I should remember how that was painted because I cut it up into little pieces with a sawzall at VanNuys about 18 years ago… I think that might just be it…
IME any Brit warbird restored in the US will be dripping with AN/NAS hardware, including the rivets & I know some (non-critical) BA threads on Merlins are retapped to US thread sizes.
The radial is an R-2800-59 Double Wasp P-47 Thunderbolt engine fitted with A-26 Invader fishtails. A beautiful engine to look at, and a masterpiece of engineering, but a complete b—–d to work on, honestly!
No kidding, changed the #5 cylinder on the former TFC F7F last weekend (starboard engine) after a valve seat fell out of the head & jammed the valve open. Was back hanging flaps & ailerons on it tuesday & will be back again tomorrow & saturday to hang the rudder & elevators. It’s due to fly on Monday with it’s new paint.
My own opinion from visiting the place for 20 years is that another working maintenance hangar would not go amiss; the question would be where to put it and who would pay for it / be installed in it! Using the location of the former hangar blown up during the filming of that Movie is I think a non-starter, the footprint is too small and constructing something that would blend in with the existing buildings would be much too expensive.
What land is available on the South side of the runway? Could they not put up a row of hangars like the new (old looking) ones at Chino?
If someone would/could buy that large field right next to the M11 & south of the runway they could build a bunch of stuff right there…
It’s just money… 😉
So what happens if it goes U/S at Dx?
The kids *in training* can be sat at the Chipmunk or Harvard table.
…maybe something with a *Bristols* theme for the bridemaids?
& have the wedding ceremony conducted by Merlin 😉

Come on Z mate, can not be that bad :p
Look at just how much FUN  it is to work on old Pommie car’s and Motorbike’s.
Wonder’s of tecno were they NOT! 😀 😀
Don’t get me wrong, if it shows up at the local bookstore I will buy it, but I wouldn’t be surprised it they said it was a biplane 😀
