I picked up the PoC DVD set here in Los Angeles about a month back. Bought it from Barnes & Noble bookstore. Also tried to get Perfect Hero at the same time but no luck on that front. 🙁
Okee doke, so how often were the 177’s used to bomb Newcastle?
LA is surrounded on three sides by fires.
There are fires on the 3 sides, but I’d hardly say we’re surrounded by fires. Only smoke I’ve seen here was a few wisps this morning about 7am when I left the house.
SanDeigo is the place getting hammered, not LA.
New (ATS) ones aren’t all that expensive…

Altho if you want a spiffy Sioux expect to pay $300…
  Just to perplex you all completely & think what the :dev2: is he prattling on about,a few years ago it was suggested by someone(a scientists probably),that by the laws of probabillity we have all breathed some air that has been inhaled by Lord Nelson:eek:
Or part of one of Hitlers farts, some dinosaur breath or even Amelia Earharts sneezes..etc…
By thinking on similar terms is it possible that we could all have owned, held or even swallowed(on a molecular scale) aluminium from an allied or axis aircraft without being aware of it.
Go to Kingman Az & you can find lumps of it laying about in the desert for bloody miles..
There’s a T28 shop at Camarillo airport in Calif.. Chuck might have something…
My local* pub here in LosAngeles has one on a stick:
http://www.sagebrushcantina.com
Well, not a stick exactly, it’s actually hung on the fence overlooking the patio.. I’ll be there either this, or next, Sunday & I’ll try to get a piccie 🙂
*local by LA standards, it’s about 70 miles away…
At least now I know WTF it was that woke me up at 4.27am this morning here in LA……Thought it was a minor quake…
Lord Melchett is Guy Gibson????????
Meh…..
So knowing how to do sheet metal work (I have been working as a custom/race car builder/fabricator…shaped just about anything from scratch…done mostly aluminium shaping) and worked extensivly on engines ( I’m currenty working as a full-time race engine builder in my own shop) I can build/restore just about anything as long as I have a certified technician signing it off? 🙂
Absolutely.. & having personally worked on one particular warbird that had been thru an Annual only 2 weeks before I saw it & then sold I can tell you that there are jackasses out there who will sign off just about anything…& that particular Tx based person is very well known in the US….
I’m pretty sure his inspection consisted solely of opening the hangar door & making sure it was the correct type of aircraft….
Closed or moved? There’s some nice shots of the place in The Who’s Tommy movie. The bit where Tommy is playing the pinball surrounded by all those sea mines… which they spent about 3 days painting silver…
Ahh now i understand, you are obviously in the united states, that says it all,
over here in the UK, there is not much left of anything (above ground)and the same with german crashsites, the are only a few yards here in the uk,
I know it would be different in the USA as there is a abundance of stuff and various yards.but honestly here in the uk there is very little in the way of ww2 stuff,or piston,
If I were you I’d drop by Pounds Yard in Portsmouth, it’s right by the end of the M27……
& don’t forget when they scrapped out all those old ‘Ton class minesweepers they had to do something with those Napier Deltics…..
Lockeed Loadstar, found it on a fishing sight for Guadalupe Island. Looks like engines were stripped long ago.
Surprised Tighar haven’t used that pic in their latest press release… 😉
thanks ever so much for that, i just didnt think to go to that scrap yard called “Merlins are us “”:D
cor whilst i am, at it can i buy a complete He111 fora quid, heard they are going cheep in the costa del sol, and merlins and all this wartime junk ,people just cant seem to shift it, bloody inundated with all this spitfire rubbish,:diablo: 😀 :p
just as if
I take it thats a “no” then? As recently as 10 years back Pounds Yard in Pompey had Napier (sea)Lions laying about. Place near me has at least 6 9cyl radials laying in the weeds, some with mounts etc still attached… & a complete, but chopped up, S2(?) Tracker filling a hole in his fence.
Another place across town has a complete R4360 stuck in a ditch at the side of the road.. & just up the road from that is a pub with half a Cessna embedded in the roof…& about 15 miles away is a B25 wedged into a canyon…& the engines are just laying there….
So instead of just blowing off my original question with a *(un)witty comeback* you might want to actually look ABOVE ground……. At least from your attitude I can see why you didn’t even THINK about asking your local salvage yards….
1 engine as my dream is to do one up to running standard, doesnt have to be a merlin, a radial would have been nice ,but i must be the biggest loser in the game as all these years i have nothing to show for all the hard work i have put in, purely for the love of it…

Ever consider just going to a salvage yard & buying one?;)
