Don’t ever use glass beads on Al either.

Any particular reason? I only ask because I can think of at least 30 aircraft owners who will be more than a tad miffed if their aircraft are grounded for having parts that have been bead blasted on them… including 9 P51’s… Princess Elizabeth being one of them.

Anybody want to bet the passenger was deaf as a bat after that flight?

Soda blasting is the way to go, I’ve done a complete car in 4 hours… & it doesn’t harm the metal at all, in fact it doesn’t even damage glass.
However it won’t remove heavy corrosion, for that I’ve used glass beads. On aluminium you can use oven cleaner, but do NOT let it sit for ages, maybe a minute max & then go at it with scotchbrite pads under running water (actually just did a set of somewhat blemished Mickey Thompson valve covers for my 351 Cleveland this morning & they look great.). Oven cleaner WILL dissolve or severely discolour aluminium if you’re not paying attention…. it also removes anodizing…

First thing I’d use would be something like Castrol Superclean which seems to contain a fair amount of phosphoric acid. it will remove all the clag, brighten the bare metal & take the remaining paint off. Any of the automotive “purple” type detergent/degreasers will work.
oh, & it also does a real number on human flesh… 😮

They show Clockwork O quite often here in the US. I watched it once & couldn’t see what all the fuss was about, attempted to watch it a second time, got bored to death about 30 minutes into it & haven’t bothered since ..

I was buzzed by a flight of 7 T6’s in a V formation yesterday afternoon coming back from someplace heading to Van Nuys. They were coming from Tehachapi but I doubt they’d just been over there to buzz Nixons engine shop .
