Too late now, but how about this Avro Arrow *artifact*?
No need for electrified fences, last time I was there I saw mountain lion tracks in the yard…
Avro bombers in action here this week, At least two 146’s (Tankers #160 & #163) are working the fires. Also multiple S2 Trackers, SkyCranes, Chinooks, S61’s & one CH-34 along with a bunch of Huey/212’s & a Bronco.
Found another one.
Been tracking down surviving birds from the 129th for a while. One that has proved to be a bit elusive was the one that was supposed to be closest to where I live, as in about 20 miles away.
Last month me & a friend from the 129th did a bit of poking about on the way back from Mojave. Spotted one through a fence & screeched to a halt to investigate. Couldn’t get close enough to see any #’s on it, but the location & damage I could see matched the last report on the bird back in 2000.
Yesterday I did another drive by, place still deserted.
Today I pull it up on Zillow to get the actual street address. The map feature listed a company name.
I look up the company & it gives me the name of the owner. I look him up & it gives me an address about 4 miles from me.
I drive over there to find another yard, but this one looks like it’s owned by a collector of “stuff I can’t live without”, All sorts of vintage tractors, trailers, dozers etc.
No one there. I go the tow yard next door & ask if they know when the guy might be around.
They gave me his phone #. Called the guy up & he said he should be out there “some day next week”. Got to call him again on Saturday.
This is what I saw through the fence as we went past at about 60mph last month…
Figure of 8 holes = *snowmen* 🙂
There’s a reason they make drill stops 😉
arrgghh! I just saw the hammer & gasket scraper method used later in the video. Now someone will need to inspect the ribs to see how many formerly round holes are now oval & how many cracks he *installed*…
Wait just a goshdurned minute there, what is this “Heathrow bears” BS? Was Paddington consulted?
It’s due back at PMD/Plant 42 in January.
SOFIA left for Germany this afternoon. D check by Lufthansa & maintenance on the telescope gubbins.

ah, things have improved then, I haven’t been there for a while.
Seems to be an issue in the UK that auto paint outlets won’t sell to anyone who walks through the door for some daft reason. This whole “trade card” BS which has never made any sense to me at all. We have 3 here in town (SoCal) who will match the color & put it in rattle cans for anyone who wants it.
Given the location, the white stuff is liable to be chalk.
Hopefully the Apache left with a suitable DX zap sticker somewhere on it 😉
I guess it makes more sense to call them Spitmunks instead of Chipfires…. otherwise it could be bought down by a damp tea towel.
One of the blokes on a motorcycle forum I’m on is involved with something similar. A bunch of mostly old guys with too much time & too many projects took over an old building. They’ve got everything from bikes, buses, cars & even 3 or 4 locomotives in the place. Not sure of the location, I think it’s oop North someplace, possibly Yorkshire.
I may be mistaken, but I think they said it was a bus depot in a former life.
