This will probably be taken down quickly due to the THREE BROWNINGS but what an astonishing thing to be selling.

Very nice but completely out of our price range:(
I thought that there was a rumour doing the rounds that the Beeb were contemplating filming Len Deightons ‘Bomber’, the radio play was excellent.

A real MB5:D
That would be ‘Test Pilot’ and whilst we’re about it how about a re-screening of ‘the Brylcreem Boys’ as discussed in another thread?
John
Stunning work there guys.
It is a shame that such lovely work will be hidden away.
Best of luck with the rest of the project.
Well you know what they say, ‘The devil is in the detail’
At least at the end of this we can sit in the seats and play hangar pilot:diablo:
can’t agree more, excellent work going on there. Will the project concentrate on the fittings
before starting on the cockpit structure? are those drawings already finalized?Exciting times to see what progress has been made in recent years by the stirling project.
Cheers
Cees
Hi Cees
A fellow Forumite is making steady progress in producing a CAD model that is already confirming some of the hardcopy drawings that we have produced in the past, most dimensions coming out less than 1/32 of an inch apart which is pretty accurate/reasonable in my book. Once the model is developed we can then start on producing jigs and templates to allow frame manufacture to proceed.
We are making some of the fixtures and fittings as:-
a. we have original drawings and/or items
b. They are more readily transportable allowing us to display them in a cockpit context (see previous posts)

Hi all,
As it has been a while since I’ve posted an update I thought I’d post a few picks of what we’ve been up to. Following on from the acquisition of the control column from Delft and the use of some parts that Pondskater has leant us, we’ve been able to commence reverse engineering 2 new control columns. They may not look much but there has been a lot of activity in making new patterns and drawing up of items. The 2 major castings are still fairly rough and need some machining to finish them off.

Hi Junk Collector, would this be the same same panel I put a picture of,on the forum this morning ?A clear outline tracing would suffice even if the owner did not want to part with it.
I think it’s worth noting that Hindenburg and ourselves have the same aim and an accurate drawing/tracing of said instrument panel would benefit both of us:D
cheers

Hi french47 and welcome to the Forum,
I’m perhaps lucky () in that I had an inherent interest in aviation all throughout my RAF service, the important thing is that you have an interest now and without that interest the whole historic aviation world would fail. Nobody is ‘clueless’, I wonder how many of us see a toy car sell for huge prices and remember that we had one just like that when…..

My mum used to work at Bircham Newton but never came across any ghosts. As for the sounds I believe they were recorded in the Squash Court although I may be mistaken
John
John,
Have you tried people like Transport photos and MAP etc, etc…?
.
Just tried transport photos…no luck, unfortunately work IT won’t let me see MAP:( :rolleyes:so will have a look tonight

IMHO one of the morally repugnant parts of this whole issue, is the way that the politicians, when faced with the realities of Dresden et al, purposefully distanced themselves from the act leaving the likes of Harris and Eaker to carry the can. Like the majority of successful wartime leaders they were single minded in their task, which was to respond in kind against the enemy with the means at their disposal.
The rights and wrongs of the policy can be discussed at length but the directives came originally from the politicians.
The RAF Jet at the end of Highlander is a Jaguar that was based with 226 OCU at RAF Lossiemouth and is mentioned n the end credits

No stress analysis, fatigue testing, Reliability and Maintainability data, limited spares holding, no original manufacturer backing, etc…I think the effort to get ‘558 back into the air would pale into insignificance:eek:
