good if it is then as we can probably make use of it ?
Hi James
I can’t identify that Pt No in our Vol 3, I believe we have one of those keys which leads me to think it could be for the rear access door, but I can’t be certain
John
can’t identify completely at the moment (suspect it’s rear fuselage) so not strictly where we’re recreating, but certainly worth a look.
Hi Alan
well it’s Stirling and I’d hazard that we’d be pretty interested in it ?
John
Another quick update ( I know 2 in a week, I’ll be getting a nosebleed LOL)
we’ve just taken receipt of a new build Glycol Tank for the windscreen and bomb aimers de-icing which sits in the starboard side of the cockpit behind the 2nd pilots seat. We managed to track down an original Manufacturers drawing for this otherwise we’d have been a bit lost. The cradle it’s sitting in is just a cardboard template but it gives you an idea of how it will sit in the aircraft
Should be accepting it at the workshop next weekend?
fantastic progress James
Hi all
Bumper update today; firstly after some 18 months of slog, the rudder pedal footrests are finally finished and installed. Needlessly complex but that’s a Shorts design through and through LOL.
The Flying Control Trim Box is also finished and works as advertised, it just needs to be stripped down lubricated with the Renold chain fitted and re-assembled.
and finally, the 2nd pilots Harness Release Assy is finished and fitted.
work that’s currently progressing is the Pulley Block recovered along with the Trim Box, this has been disassembled (easily as it turns out) and has been bead blasted and is ready for priming, paint and re-assembly. We’re also looking to fabricate the components for the 1st Pilots’ Seat Armour, reasonably straightforward but we need to get the info to draw up the components
till next time
John
Hi Ball Turret
have sent you a PM
John
got an FN4 but different diameter
if only…
Thanks Eric
According to the RNLAF team it’s scheduled for next month, and whilst not a complete aircraft, the wreckage is substantially there albeit scattered. Quite hopeful that any personal items and structure can be recovered.
John
Hi Mark
the aircraft in question is actually BK716, it was originally identified as BK710. It’s been known about for some time and some parts have been on display for some time and some have actually been incorporated into our flightdeck build
John
Thanks for following us chaps even after the trials and tribulations of the forum update!
James, definitely interested in anything that can bring the instrument panel to life, not sure if you’ve been in touch with David Collins previously but he has all the gen on GAs, Type Records etc.
The story of BK716 is sort of old news in that the Fort Veldhuis museum already have a number of items from this aircraft (indeed so do we); it was previously mis-identified as BK710 until last year.
regards
John
