many thanks to everyone who posted links to its sale. At £6000 it’s a bit rich for our blood unfortunately; if you see any other Stirling related items please post them on here
thanks
John
Hi Cees
Would certainly be in the market if he is
John
some time ago we posted a request on the Do-It website and we got another CAD driver to assist us in addition to the Ste(i)rling help from Tempest V above. Worth an ask https://do-it.org/

Hi James
Of course :). It’ll be at our workshop as of next Saturday and will drawn up asap. We’re making a concerted effort to get the fuselage including the Coupe fully dimensioned now, as soon as we get something useful we’ll share it with you
cheers
John
Happy New Year all
a very cold day at the workshop last Saturday so not much progress to report. However, we are now in receipt of a late Christmas present courtesy of Thunderbird167 (Dave) at NEAM. He identified a piece of Stirling in their reserve collection which wasn’t relevant to their collecting policy and kindly thought of us :).
Just delivered into our sweaty hands is a portion of the cockpit coupe from LK488 (Mickle Fell Stirling), this includes the elevator and rudder trim control box; an item which we have drawings for but were dreading having to make. As you can see from the photos below this eminently restorable and as stated we have the drawings to make the missing parts. The remains of the structure have so much useful info that we don’t know where to begin, so thanks again to NEAM for this invaluable item

what a great feeling that must have been. I know we felt the same when we got both control columns and rudder pedals connected together in the Stirling 🙂
Onwards and upwards for 2019!
John
Thanks Smirky
I think that’s what I had in mind, as and when I get my hands on an original, it should confirm it 🙂
cheers
John
Thanks for the offer Alan. might have another option but if it doesn’t bear fruit, I’ll keep you in mind
cheers and Happy New Year
John

A bit photo heavy update today, butthat the Pilots’ escape hatch is now finished and we’ve actually been able to paint it in camouflage (Dark Earth). The various photos show the before and after glazing and the finished article in its entirety. Nice to have something completed, we’ll probably make a bespoke storage box for it to keep it safe until we’re ready to install it in the Coupe.

The footrests are progressing slowly (nicely) but they are a 3D jigsaw which needs getting your head around to make them fit correctly and also requires getting them levelled up in the longitudinal and transversal planes. Why Shorts didn’t make these from wood in the same manner as the floor panels is beyond me!

We’re looking at the Autocontrols panel now hence my associated post on the Steering Lever I posted earlier, this should enable more of our various switches, gauges and levers into one place. More of that hopefully next year.
We’re stripping down one of our heavily corroded bomb crutches as these need drawing up and we’ll need 6 complete assemblies for the fuselage portion we’re recreating.
Hopefully going to squeeze in one more workshop stint before the New Year but this may become more of an end of year catch up on admin, design issues etc…
Hope everyone has a great Xmas and a Happy New Year
cheers
John
look forward to seeing it Cees 😉
ditto :o)
