Hi all
Despite the lack of posts there’s been no lack of work undertaken on the Stirling.
Firstly an important decision taken by the group on the finished length of the fuselage to be constructed. From previous posts, we’ve stated that it’s been our intention to re-construct the fuselage up to the transport joint at Fr26. We’ve now decided that due to our lack of a stable base from which to work, the increased encroachment of development work at Alconbury and the sheer physical size of this should we have to move; that we will revert to our original plan of re-constructing up to Fr16. Whilst this might disappoint some, we feel this is a pragmatic solution and should time, space and resource allow it isn’t beyond the whit of man to carry on beyond that. Fr16 encompasses all the major crew positions up to the front spar.
back to work, the following photos show the brake lever which has now been finished and adds a welcome splash of colour in an otherwise green and black cockpit! the last photo is of some of the myriad parts that go to make up the Sutton harness release units (2 off). Could Shorts have used an off the shelf item, of course not 🙂

Hi Elliott
We would be, dependent on cost obviously
regards
John
thanks James
Much appreciated as always 🙂
John
Do you know James, I’ve never noticed them before, as you say they look like a mechanical guide to allow the cables to travel smoothly
John
Thanks Martin
Peter has your turret accommodation piece btw 🙂
John
Can I claim ‘speling mistake’? :apologetic:
James
Absolutely 🙂
I think you meant FN5 James 🙂
This is a better pic of that area with seats removed (Courtesy of The Aeroplane), the Bowden cable in shot look to be for the Ground Landing Flares although I could be mistaken
J
Hi James
Could it be here as outlined in yellow?
John
I think the ‘feedback’ cable in the diagram ar actually the control cable to provide input to the flying services, the diagram appears to show them as cables with chains at the sprockets. Unless I’ve misunderstood….
John
Hi James,
Might have a photo of that area, I’ll have a look
John
Hi James
I should’ve circled the area in question but it’s the transverse beam that the 2 pulley brackets are attached to, the previous photos shows the rivet pattern for these and the Bowden cable block is offset on the lower part of the beam next to the asbestos lagged pipe
John
I think I’ve solved the location of the I Beam, I think it’s at Frame 5 directly beneath the P1 seat and is the transverse beam to which the autopilot servo and rudder pedal pulleys are mounted (see below)
John
Hi James
Looking at the above, it points to Frame 5 being the beam in question although I’ve not seen anything like that in the photos we’ve got of that area. I’ll do some digging
John
doh! 🙂
I suppose that begs the question if there are any more out there that readers may be willing to part with?
