Nice one Al, she’s getting closer
You’d have thought so:rolleyes:
If we get left alone for a few years, we might just make some decent progress:highly_amused:
Hi Rob
Getting a bit big to move around now unfortunately, so won’t be at Newark. :apologetic:
John
Let’s hope they have a wing with loads of FI remaining and no rear spar concessions.

It was our AGM this weekend, but I did find a small bit of time to fit the Landing Lamp Dipper Assy taper pins (thanks Chumpy and DH112:applause:), this just needs the addition of the kn0b at the top and we’ve got a bakelite ball to fulfill this purpose (apologies for the poor photo).
The AGM was very fruitful, with the design of the fuselage jig now getting firmed up and with the bomb bay drawings now confirmed as getting closer to being transferred to CAD.

The flap gauge is mounted on the windscreen centreline and doesn’t show degrees just IN – 1/3 – OUT, there’s a good pic of it in the Haynes Manual courtesy of fellow forumite Hindenburg. Not aware of any gauges that relate specifically to the turrets but stand to be corrected.
There’s a tribute to the crew of BF479 here: http://wingsmuseum.co.uk/stirlling_bf479_investigation_kasterlee_belgium.htm
John
It’s not like any Stirling flap gauge I’ve seen
Is there fuel residue in the tanks? Normally an empty tank has enough fuel in to keep the tank safe from exploding and to ensure the thiokol (PRC) remains good. Otherwise a visual inspection of the faying areas on the inside would be worth a go, checking for loose sealant.
A slight word of caution, a tank with a residue of fuel is more explosive than a full one due to the fuel/air vapour mix. That’s why they fill tanks with explosive suppressant foam to reduce the explosivity.
Not sure Al, but I seem to recall that there is some asbestos content in the tanks so be careful when restoring the surface finish
John
do you know which tail number?
Hi Andy,
Not airworthy, but wherever possible we use correct spec parts.
Thanks to Chris (Chumpy) we’re now sorted:applause:
John
Hi Ed
Light Aero Spares, they’re pretty good for sourcing AGS but we’d rather not waste any money on minimum order qty and VAT in this instance. There are other stockists but they tend to operate similarly 🙁
Just hoping the old boys network comes up trumps on this occasion 🙂
John
Thanks for that, I’ll let him know 🙂
cheers
John
The volunteers we have are actively engaged Cees 😀
When you have 100s of parts to be made to the same pattern (and someone offers to do them for you for free) you jump at the opportunity:cool:
John
Thanks Oxcart, we’ve been contacted by someone who is hoping to waterjet cut the myriad number of small doublers, gusset plates and cleats that hold tie the structure together, these will number 100s if not thousands of each type.
