we looked into them with a view to cannibalising them for the wings when fatigue was starting to become an issue, but they were in very poor condition even then (late 90s).
Anecdotally, when our Sqn Ldr went out there to survey them, he asked where all the spares had gone and was directed to a corner of a derelict hangar where they were all piled up. He was advised not to go near due the area being infested, with snakes, spiders and other nasty beasties!

Great news for Max then….
Hopefully the ‘other’ project will also be able to be collected next weekend

Come on Ritch
You can’t leave us hanging; what is Max’s new project? :dev2:
John

We might possibly be interested in the Stirling balloon tyre, but will let you know for definite tomorrow
John
Thanks for the update Al
Good to see the old girl showing signs of life again

We completely rebuilt our FN5 which to all intents and purposes shares the same chassis. Glad to offer advice if needs be

Ooh that’s interesting but I don’t think our glider has enough cable to need bundling.
That said I’ve sussed how to make pretty good looking repro Uno, Duo and Tricel cable now 🙂
Oooo do tell 😀
I’m not very sentimental when it comes to metal but looking at those ingots. It’s as if someone killed those aircraft. Such a contrast from what they were.
But then if someone wanted them they wouldn’t be in that state. Can’t save em all I guess.
I expressed an interest in the Jag cockpit (although it wasn’t complete internally):(
As Hindenburg states, our investigations have revealed no evidence that anything was buried there. As for the RAFM Stirling parts, at present they’re not integral to our plans (too far aft for our purposes), useful though for general design information

Just a quick post to inform followers that the statement under the Flypast editorial in the May issue is slightly erroneous in that it states that the Stirling Aircraft Project is based at RAF Wyton. Just to correct this we are now loacted at the former Alconbury airfield and moved away from Wyton in 2011. This has the added advantage that it’s easier to arrange access for visitors.:D

Thanks for posting it Andy.
looks like a mainplane fuel tank lid

Hi Andy
Any luck with the images or can you send me a PM with some info?
John
I have it on good authority that some significant lumps of B17 and Stirling are being brought along to the event. Will try to post some images later.
Thanks Andy
David will be there on the day, acting as our ‘Agent’ LOL, so definitely interested to see the pics
John
Big one.
