nice…but isn’t it too short to be a Stirling one?
Hi Martin
I wondered that too remembering back to when you got hold of your tanks, but when you see the physical location of where it fits (which we can now determine from the flightdeck structure and photos), the shorter one seems to fit the bill. That said we’re possibly getting another one, which may be long so we’ll have to make a decision as to which is correct later.
John
Thanks Peter.
Have to apologise as I hadn’t realised that you and Karl were both part of the same team 😀
Hopefully we can reciprocate in some small way :eagerness:
John
A quick update, thanks to our colleagues on 57Rescue, we now have a dual axis autopilot gyro (rudder/aileron). We just got this direct from Canada and we’d like to extend our thanks to Peter (mod) and Karl for sorting this out for us. Cheer guys :very_drunk:
Thanks Simon
As and when you get to the workshop you’ll see that the undercarriage is ‘proper’ engineering 😀
John
Thanks Simon 😀
Lovely photos thanks Simon, I’ve not seen those before…..
The throttle box is off an early Stirling ie one with Exactor throttles. We’re only just up the road, so if you want to drop by and see progress, please drop me a line. I think our Chairman knows the route taken so I’ll have a word with him
John
Thanks WP, we’re getting there slowly but surely
That would be Bourn ( Cambs ) rather than Bourne ( Lincs ) I guess:D
Talking of Bourn Cambs there is a commemoration plaque being opened there organised by the son of a 97 Squadron Bomb Aimer who flew from there during WW11 planned for 24th August 2014.
http://www.rafbournmemorial.co.uk refers to it
My bad…:D
Haven’t had a close look yet but I don’t think theer are any stencilled markings on it. t will have to be paint stripped and re-painted black anyway so details of any markings required would be helpful 😀
Thanks TO for the tour of the Ashton, you’ve got your work cut out but what a project; interesting to see her progress hopefully over the coming years
regards
John
Just picked up an air tank for the brake and landing lamp systems today from the Newark Aerojumble. As always a friendly show and a particular highlight was having a look inside the Avro Ashton thanks TO for the guided tour :eagerness:)
If anyone has another air tank to go along with the one below, please bear us in mind as we need 2 in total
John
Either way TO, it’ll be good to look inside
cheers
John
Most definitely….
We let them have the bucket as it was surplus to requirements for us.
John
Thanks Geoff
I forgot to mention that our Chairman recently visited the old SEBRO repair facility at Bourne airfield as the renaining buildings were being demolished. He got chatting to the contractors doing the work and when they found out what we’re doing, they kindly donated over 100′ of steel purlings from the demolished factory buildings which we will use to fabricate the bomb bay jig. This a great help to us and although the material in itself is quite mundane, it does have a link to Stirlings and we can claim to be eco-friendly too. We’re steadily progressing towards the day when construction of the fuselage proper will begin in earnest 😎
