Being fairly local to Cambourne we wrote to the Parish Council about the misspelling of Stirling but to no avail. Understandably I suppose the council didn’t want to spend money on new signage and the residents would have to change driving licences, letter headings etc.
A pity that they didn’t do their research before formally naming the road, but plenty of people (even in aviation circles) get it wrong.

Work is progressing sporadically at the moment due to our Landlord carrying out some works to our building. However, post Cockpitfest, we’ve been progressing the refurb of the 1st pilots seat. The corrosion was removed mechanically as far as possible then a solution of Nitric and Sulphuric acid was used to attempt to remove the corrosion from the seat internals. It looks like it’s been successful but I suppose only time will tell.
We flowed some Waxoil into the tubes and it’s now been primed as can be seen below. The raising / lowering mechanism is being worked on albeit slowly but we’re getting there.
John
I was also humiliated by being passed by a Jaguar on the way home, they even manage to out do us on the road!!
As an ex Jag man I’m well aware of the aircrafts limitations in speed, so it’s nice to see that one has finally overtaken something:diablo:
Chuffed that the Chippie is coming along so well and I haven’t forgotten the copying that I promised. PM me your address and I’ll get them to you (just be patient with me though:o)
John
Hi Cees
PM sent
John
I have a ‘signed-chit’ from 12jaguar witnessing that I photographed the Stirling this year
I have that chit framed Howard :diablo:
Thanks to all the staff at NAM who made us feel most welcome and to all those who came and talked to us. It was a great surprise to win the ‘Special Award’ and it has spurred us on (hic!) to better things.
John
Might be worth talking to Hindenburg as I think he’s getting some made 🙂
I know what you mean
Will have to sort something out either at yours or at our workshop
cheers
John
Hi Ken,
Sent you an email
regards
John
38 minutes TO, you’re slacking :diablo:
Seriously though, aeroboots are a good place to start
John
Hi Jerry
I’m up at Newark Air Museum this weekend for Cockpitfest. Any chance, you could make it over?
John
A quick update. We’ve been mainly getting the flightdeck ready for taking to Cockpitfest, but we’ve been able to reconstruct (using a badly damaged original as an example) the pulley mounting structure that’s installed directly under the throttle box in the Bomb Aimers Compartment. The photos show an end and side view and a view looking up to the base of the throttle box on an aircraft. The structure is the inverted triangular assy in the centre.
John
Don’t think we’ve got one, have you got a pic?
cheers
John
You don’t know the half of it:D
No worries on the pic front, glad to help
John
Hi Cees
hadn’t forgotten and thanks 😉
It’s the gyro we’re on the hunt for as it’s a prominent fixture in the Bomb Aimers station
cheers
John
