I notice that you now refer to the cockpit as ‘she’…..:D
John
Thanks Elliott
That’s most useful

John
Further to the info on different radio set ups, I’ve got this photo which shows an alternate installation. Can anyone confirm which it is and if so has anyone got one? 😀
Hi Pagan thanks for that, I sort of guessed it might be (doh!) and I know that we have some of the boxes etc.
cheers
John
Hi Anne
Don’t worry, I’m glad of any electrickery info I can get being but a simple rigger:D
You are correct in that we have a lot of 1154/1155 stuff, the TR9 is a bit of a mystery to me and what’s an SBA?
Cees
Really sorry but after all that it looks like we might have the wrong one after all:o If we can’t make use of it do you want it back?
John
Agreed:confused:
Ours is missing as well.
This is beginning to lead me down the path of thinking that this installation is correct for early Mk 1 Stirlings only, I have got another photo showing a completely different installation which I thought was for mk IV/V but leads me to believe it’s for all TR1154/1155 installations. You learn something new every day:)
Cees
You thought of the Halifax first, shame on you! :p
John
Not being a pedant at all 😀
I did think that there is a slight difference between the original one and the one just received, I’m not an expert in this area so I’ll take your word that this is nearly but not quite correct. Looking at it I’d say that it’s mounted the opposite way around ie with the lever to the rear, we may be able to modify it so that it looks correct and it will be a space model only as I’m assured that there are no innards to it.
If you’ve got a close up picture of the correct one it would be very much appreciated.
John
Another small piece of the jigsaw donated by a kind gentleman in the Netherlands;)
John
I stand corrected:)
I don’t believe that the MoD pay rates to the council, but under a scheme called Resource Accounting and Budgetting, individual departments are ‘charged’ a figure for the assets that are under their control. This approach led to large amounts of Defence real estate being demolished and spare parts sold off to keep the bean counters happy.
In our case we were the only occupants of a hangar that was falling into disrepair through lack of use. the MoD spent a lot of money on the building so that the Stations resident clubs and organisations could make use of it. However with the run down very few people are using it and it’s likely to remain largely empty until at least 2012 when the Army move into Wyton. I’d bet that the place will deteriorate in the mean time with no occupants:rolleyes:
Having had discussions with the Station Commander it became obvious that the RAF very much wanted us on site, it was Defence Estates that were putting on the pressure as it was they who had responsibility for the accomodation and had a remit to generate as much money as possible. Whilst always being subject to military requirements, it came as a surprise to both us and the RAF that the DE rules were so rigid and there was no room for movement considering our charitable status:(
We had a good run there, but on 2 occasions we have had to vacate rooms at a weeks notice so with any luck we’ll now have somewhere with more security of tenure and at least we won’t have the palaver of getting people escorted on site:rolleyes:
John
We were/are in this exact position. For years we were given free accomodation at RAF Wyton on an Encroachment Licence, seeing as we had some RAF people involved and I was an MOD Civil Servant. However, as Wyton is gradually being run down the servicemen were posted and I left the MoD, Defence Estates decided that as we were no longer service orientated (never mind that Stirlings were based at Wyton!), they were going to charge us over £9k a year for our small woirkshop and storage area, this being the commercial rate. The fact that we are a small Charity carried no weight and wouldn’t be discounted, obviously this is beyond our means so we’re looking at new premises (at cost although significantly less than £9k).
The only good thing is that the MoD whilst not allowing us to undertake work there are at least allowing us to store items foc whilst we’re sorting somewhere else out. When we’re gone the rooms will be empty with no revenue at all(we would have been prepared to pay a peppercorn rent:confused:). So it seems like they’ve cut off their nose to spite their face.
John
wow, wow and thrice wow!:D
fantastic job Cees
Normal service to be resumed Cees? 😀
