Posting a few pics of our latest acquisition:
The control column bases and support structure from Stirling IV LK567, kindly donated from Denmark 😎
The good news is that we should be able to incorporate most of the structure into our build, the bad news is that we’d already paid a considerable amount to cast up the bases utilising Pondskaters’ Sunderland one.

Bumping this up again, I imagine that Lightnings, Hunters, Harriers, Buccs etc would all have similar fuses so maybe someone with connections to one of these can help.
Cheers
Paul
Don’t forget Paul, that this is from the French part of the aircraft so I wouldn’t be surprised if the NSN had a 14 in the nation code. A pity that I didn’t keep the electrical part of the Vol 3A:(
John
Your pictures shows a Mk XIIIC altimeter, 6A/446. Ref 6A/445 if you want a luminous version.
My references show that the 6A/437 is a luminous Mk XIIID. The Mk XIIID is a 40000 feet altimeter where as the Mk XIIIC is a 30000 feet altimeter.
Thanks, you are quite correct. The new photo definitely shows 0-40,000′ although I think a Stirling would struggle to make 20k:rolleyes:
6A/437 is definitely what we’re after
cheers
John
swift about turn chaps:o
Just located a better photo of a MkIII Stirling panel which clearly shows a 6A/437 altimeter, this looks more appropriate to our needs, I’ll post this on our wants thread later. Sorry for the run around

blimey Alan, that was quick off the mark:D
The range is the same as the one listed in the Vol 1 but as you say the front face looks different.
Wouldn’t have one lying around world you……? 😉

Stirling Project wants list moved to it’s own dedicated thread

More updates soon……
Len Deightons ‘Bomber’ springs to mind
IIRC, the book Mud, Blood and Poppycock goes a long way to dispelling a lot of the myths surrounding life in the trenches from all sides. That’s not to say though that when put into perspective the loss of life and wounding was horrendous whichever way you look at it.
Will update wants list soon, but thanks to Air Ministry the requirement for 2 off 5C/372 switches has now been met. Also got an oxygen economiser at the Newark aeroboot. Thanks to all the people who have sent offers in so far, please keep ’em coming
John 😀
Thought it was a good day all round and great to meet up again with a few Forumites.
Personally got a pair of ID switchboxes (thanks Air Ministry) and an oxygen economiser (TT18Timbo). Thanks to Stacey24b for pointing out the Chippy GA drawing for a pound 😀 and to David Collins for providing the wheels to get me there.

I’ve just emailed John L to tell him I’ve found a couple of downward id lamp switch units and will take them to Newark aerojumble tomorrow. Will anyone from the Stirling Project (or a courier) be there?

Stirling wants (Revised)
A slightly revised combined list, thanks to Binbrook74 we now have a ASI. Have seen that Milrecs have a single rheostat for sale but hoping that someone out there might have one a bit cheaper or for swap.;) The Type G selector switchbox is pending so I’ve left it off for the time being.
Thanks for your continued support
John
Hi Martin
we have the external shield for the thermometer so might be able to make you one up. I have seen the ones on Milrecs but they’re a tad expensive so they may have to be a last resort, swapsies are much better:cool:.
It looks like we should be getting the type G bomb selector in return for one of our Type F’s so a positive result there.
John
Forgot to add a picture of the the 6A/1439 Thermometer :o, again if anyone has one it would be much appreciated
