Hi dave and welcome to the Forum.

I think it true to say that all surplus defence equipment should be sold through Defence Sales (or whatever they’re called today), however I doubt that this is always teh case given the number of Jaguars that seemed to by-pass this avenue. Can’t help on your other questions though

This was discussed at great length in our office. A more damning report on MoD policy could not have been written. As an ex RAF bod and MoD civil servant, the failings that were identified were ones that every aircraft engineer had identified and why so many people have left.

The constant salami slicing of highly experienced manpower, the dilution of airworthiness policy and the impact of massive financial constraints has led to a dangerous situation that unfortunately only got raised in profile due to 14 untimely deaths.

Remember this when the next round of Civil Servant cuts is propsed and the Daily Mail tells you about the glut of them compared to servicemen (and women), the vast majority of CS that have been lost thus far and will be lost, will be those at the sharp end with the experience. In my time the number of beaurocrats has risen exponentially whilst the spanner monkeys has fallen. And it’s getting worse!

    Some more progress:

All four seat support structures have been assembled and a jig has been constructed to keep everything square. The first stage of our cockpit is now a distinct possibility as we have the information we need and with any luck we’ll be able to show something similar to the attached archive photo. A lot more work before that event though:rolleyes:

    Wants List

    Hi all,

Obviously with all the structural work that is now taking place, we are actively looking for items to populate the various crew stations. As a starter for ten please see the following list of items that we need. This will be a living list and will be added to or have items deleted on a regular basis. We do have a number of items that can be used for swaps to avoid the evils of money:diablo:

5C/372 (2 off) Identification switchbox (early metal type)
    5C/1588 (2 off) Dunlop type rheostat AHO16130
    5C/1749 Undercarriage indicator
5C/2003 or 5C/2084 (4 off) Prop feathering buttons
    5D/659 Selector switchbox Type G
5D/664 (?) Automatic bomb distributor Type VII
    5D/1062 Interlock Firng Switch
6A/1439 Direct reading air temperature thermometer Mk 1

Will try and post some pictures later

    TIA

I always thought that 7 lb constituted a body in RAF terms, I stand to be corrected
