Boeing KC 46

I believe Civilian (Airline type) aircraft life spans are based more on cycles than airframe hours, Military is opposite. Go ahead, I’ve got my Flak jacket on.

    Boing KC 46

Okay folks, probably get blasted on this post, BUT.. as a 50+ year aviation Mechanic / A&P / Military and civilian, I must put in my 2 cents worth. I worked at Boing (Renton 63560 Wing Shop) back in the day. The ‘135 was and is a GREAT acft. Boing builds good stuff. I never worked the “Stratobladder” in the service but knew many who did. Made a lot of trips from Beale to Kadena supporting the “Blackbirds” and the ‘135 ALLWAYS got us there and back. At any given time they would be called on to deploy on support missions and the did it well. When I enterd the world of civilian (airline ops) the A 319 /320 were the hot ticket, but all of a sudden they are static displays lookin’ for parts. America West was next door to us in Las Vegas and the “Busses” were a problem child after logging a lot of hours.MY OWN OPINION is a tanker version of an Aerbus is not a suitable choice. As for me , “I ain’t going, ‘less it’s on a Boeing”.

Been there,(Phu Cat) done that. Gotta remember the time frame and the fact that SEA had no OSHA or EPA.And Phu Cat had ONE hangar for inspections (phases). That “Hun was obviously “new” in country and needed to conform quickly, plus she’s carrying an inboard pylon,NOT an SEA configuration without a TER or MER.:dev2:

    guess whats that red plane?

Someone mentioned an “A” model Sabre flying from Duxford? would that be the Sabre that was built by Ben Hall in Washington? Just curious as it REALLY is NOT an “A” model. Thanks.

    Starships

I saw the lineup of Starships at Marana last winter and wondered what was going on. it was a weekend and no one around to question. Interesting stuff. Some one used to operate one out of Macarren @’Vegas a few years back.

Kenya F-5, whats mounted under the wing

Yep, old reliable 4 wing Dart.I’ve loade a good many on”86’s and Huns. Cheap, simple and pretty much”Murphy Proof”.Dornier used to make a 3 wing version with a built in scoring device.:dev2

Not NATO Airspace, I know but in the early’60’s Bears were “poking around” Alaskan airspace, causing many a” Duece” to scramble. I was assigned to a “Dart” unit from McChord AFB in Washington and we augmented / supplemented the F-102’s during a project known as “White Shoes”

    Huns in the 70’s….

Collings Foundation has acquired an “F” model, formerley FSI# 415. A long time Hun driver, Charlie Friend recently ferried it from ELP to MAF for paint.

Very interesting to see a post about the ‘105. I was associated with her for a few years, and she got some bad press. I think the reasons stated for not being selected by others were well said. Originally designed for delivering nukes, eventually she was tasked with everything else. Early on, some problems came up, but she kept on tickin’. She was my first true love, and I had the Honor of bringing back the last Weasels from Korat to George and stayed with her ’till the end. Damn fine acft.:dev2:

I’m not sure about the “bulkhead” you mention,I’m thinking we are not on the same page with our terminology, possibly due to a language difference. Could you E-mail me a picture of what you have? My address is donandjudy123@yahoo.com.

If the aircraft is “on it’s feet” gear down, etc. It’s pretty straightforward. support the fuselage and fold the gear, support the wing(s) with jacks / plywood, whatever. It’s best if your equipment for supporting the wings is on/has/can be on wheels. remove the wing / fuselage fairings, diss-connect the plumbing.remove the attach bolts and slide the wing(s) away from the fuselage. Should be some push-pull rods to unhook also. No big deal.

I don’t know what you mean by “dissasembling the wing”. Are you de-skinning the wing? If it’s REMOVING the wing from the airframe, perhaps I can be of assistance.
