I always thought the SBS were the Special Boat Squadron ?
Anyway, don’t talk trains to me, I waited for best part of an hour on a draughty overbridge at Welwyn Garden City station yesterday morning, expecting a Duchess on the front of a charter – only to find two 86’s top-and-tailing, which ain’t quite the same.
I’ve seen that 47 before, riding trailing Thunderbird behind a Tornado charter thru’ Welwyn North on the ECML. Do you know where the 57 was dragging it to ?
late edit: The Duchess did come through about 3 minutes after I walked away – the 86’s were hauling another charter, which I did’nt know about!
I thoroughly second your comments above, Nick. I’ve been attending shows there for over 30 years, and it’s still as magical now as the first time I went. Thanks to one and all.

Nice shots there, thank you – but have you deliberately left out the Typhoon as non-historic ? I thought that was the best demo of the aircraft I’ve seen by a fair margin.
Very nice shots, keep on posting please – was the first one a ‘lucky’ cloudscape shot, it looks like an air-to-air ?
Very nice shots there, Keith, thank you. I spent the afternoon sitting amongst the general public who attended this airshow (i.e. the non-enthusiasts ) and the big hit amongst them was Sally B., particularly in company with the Spit and the Mustang. I think it was summed up nicely by the teenage lad standing behind me who, when the B17 has finished its slot, turned to his Dad and said ” I AM WELL IMPRESSED ”.
Hello
Just see this on the Fighter collection blog.

What this it and this it coming or going.
Mr. Gray sending the Sea Fury back to the States, ‘cos he doesn’t like it ?????
No doubt all will be revealed in due course….. are you sure it’s not a tease ? – there are a few jokers amongst the FC people.
Is Duncan Baker’s Howard 500 still sitting down at Exeter or in those neck of the woods? If so, does it fly at all? Found a photo of it at ABpic displaying at Coventry in 2000. But not much info after that.
T J
T.J., I shot a sequence of this aircraft at the 50’s Festival of Flying at Coventry in 2003. I need to edit it, and find out how to display on a suitable site – if you’re interested I’ll have a go !
A Spitfire (i’m almost certain it was Peter Teichmann’s Mk11) circling over Morrison’s in Panshanger -it’s not something you see every day!
Actually, I go past that Morrison’s all the time, Oxy old chap, so it is something I see every day. Seriously though,I think you’ll find that was Mrs Grace & her Spitfire circling while waiting to run in on Hatfield House for her usual Battle Proms gig. 😀
Rest easy, Henry. This country will never see the like of your generation again, and we will be the poorer for it.
Camouflaged Pilatus P-2 up from Panshanger 16.30hrs., heading off in S.E. direction.
It certainly beats an over hyped airshow.
Right on the nail there, Nick, and thanks for a very moving post – I really must do the pilgrimage one day.
Mark Jeffries displaying in his Extra near Welwyn G.C. about 16.45hrs today, presumably over Brocket Hall – second weekend running they’ve had a private display there, if my presumption is correct.
Great pics. Thanks for sharing.
Love the first picture of the Raider with her wings folded. Don’t suppose you have any more shots of this aircraft do you as I’m building an R/C model of one and the detail shots are a help?

I took three pics of the Skyraider (static, folded) on Sunday, which you are welcome to look at. If you’re interested please P.M. with your e-mail address – they are not up to the standard of those shown, but may be of some use.
