An excellent programme, with a good mix of flying and the occasion of remembrance, which is why the project was born. We owe a lot to the gutsy Maltese people.
Thing is, will we ever see its likes again?
Subverting the thread just a smidgen, what would be Forumites ‘Fantasy Returns’?
If you could take a current (or imminent) airworthy historic flyer somewhere, where would you go, and why?
May I kick off with (1) Sally B. to the CAF show, to let the Yanks know their sacrifice is still honoured (2) XH 558 to Oshkosh, just for the hell of it.

…Utterly Butt’s ? …..more like Heavenly Butt’s to me…..have you got more of the Vimy, please Mr.92 ?
High wing, radial engine jobby, single fin/rudder, flying N.E, between Hertford and W.G.C. at about 1140hrs – what, who? anybody any ideas? Unfortunately nowhere near bins or specs at the time, so can’t give better description
Didn’t some body make a sailing boat out of one of the floats.
Apparently somebody used six of the windows as portholes for their yacht.
know of any good books on the subject?
There’s always the relevant Putnam’s – Saunders and Saro Aircraft since 1917 – if you can find it. Has some interesting pics and info in it. Best of luck with the project; the Princess was an impressive if ill-conceived aircraft which doesn’t appear in artwork form very often. Please update via the Forum if it goes ahead
Putnam’s ‘British Racing and Record Breaking Aircraft’ has a photograph of Airspeed A.S.5A Courier G-ACJL that took part in the 1934 Mac.Robertson race. The colour scheme is described as being light and dark blue. There is a photograph of the Viceroy (which also took part) a few pages on, and the tonal shades look similiar – is it not feasible that Airspeed shopped both aircraft out in the same scheme for the race?
could they be loitering around somewhere in a deserted scrapyard, unloved, unwanted and awaiting discovery?!
….is this the prelude to another of your suspect images, mantog?
What do you reckon……..?
…. I reckon that’s a real cracker, Mantog……
Would be a great hunting ground for bringing up some airframes.
30-odd years of salt water corrosion? probably nothing left worth recovering.

Well, that comment had real bite in it, or should one say it sucks?
With swept wings it would have been even more beautiful.
P. 1052 ?
Search datas about SNECMA engines in the 50’s
try Google, there’s some info if you insert ‘SNECMA Atar’
The Grace Spitfire overflew Panshanger mid-day’ish Tuesday, presumably on its way to Farnborough; Catalina flew wide circuit round Welwyn G.C. yesterday, noon’ish – presumably up on air test from Dux.
best one was the 50th anniversary of the BoB which was awesome, actually stood outside the Palace for that one
I wuz there as well! some of the rehearsals flew over Hatfield, figured the only way to see it properly was to go to Buck House. Amazing day, great atmoshere, took loads of crap photographs, but let the side down by yelling “Yamamoto” at the Jap tourists shouldering their way through the crowd. Sad to think that most of those airframes are now probably recycled into Honda Civic’s, so I suppose the laugh’s on me.
Lancaster on its way to Shrivenham, late evening 1st.June; Yak 52 up from Panshanger last week; Spitfire heading N.E., returning to Dux. yesterday afternoon, about 17.30hrs:CH53 heading S.W. over Welwyn G.C. at about 07.45 this morning.
