Agent K, please note the most important word in my original post was ‘cynical’. At Duxford over the last few years I’ve felt like a sausage being processed, like I do when dealing with a lot of institutions these days.

It’s the old British Railways trick of raising prices to suppress demand – demand plummets, you can close it down. The Duxford site probably runs at a loss, the IWM would likely love to sell this prime ‘brownfield’ site and pocket the money.
O.K., cynical I know, but I think we’re being manipulated into becoming fixed revenue streams.

Have you tried getting this shown on the local TV station(s) – just the sort of human interest story they like. Somebody just might have a clue.

Panshanger is going as well-a former RAF training station

Closed September ’14 – they are still debating how many houses to build there – interestingly (or not) the option with the least number of houses incorporates a realigned runway, but I’m not holding my breath. All the remaining wartime (and postwar) buildings were flattened a few months back.

Must confess I mis-read the thread title and clicked, thinking this was about the (Jazz) Crusaders – Joe Sample et al – but it’s some sad mother droning on about Muslims. Disappointing.

Must confess I’ve always thought that Alconbury might make a decent airport for an up and coming area of England, as well as relieving some of the pressure on the big three (four?) in the South-east. It’s adjacent to the A1(M) and the ECML is within sight. Easy access Northwards on that lovely bit of 4-lane motorway, and also the A14 easily reachable. Plus the fact that it would annoy my former boss, who lives locally.

Did not the Russian VTOL fighters (Yak 36/38) have automatic ejection seats fitted ? I remember watching a short film sequence of a 38 rolling off the bow of a carrier, the system initiating and depositing the pilot back on deck – and he didn’t even get his shoes wet,

If they had been refused permission to land, would that have just been hard cheese or is that opinion full of holes ?

It must have been one hell of a buzz for a young bloke to strap one of those on his back, providing that he didn’t worry about carbon monoxide and the tail falling off.

Brill as usual, Brian- particularly the Trafalgar Square shot which has a great Dickensian feel about it.
