How about a list of Battle of Britain film quotes that `should` have got in the film.

    I’ll start with,

    “Oi, mind me suspenders!”

    🙂

So, in a dogfight which would win, Tucano or Spitfire? Assuming you fitted some guns to the Tucano of course!

Airport info sounds likely however for the flight I’m wondering if this site is using some form of telemetry from the aircraft?
I watched Flight 858 go into the hold at Heathrow in relative real-time. I say relative as it appeared to lag about 8 mins from actual.

However I just noticed that over water the plane has changed to `Estimated` so I guess you are correct about radar. My question would then be is the radar information made public somehow?

I think they lost a great deal more than credibility and any support they might have had except for nutcases and the faithful.

But I still fail to understand how that affects the facts of what we are discussing. Were there, to quote Al “huge advances in medicine, rocketry, aerodynamics & jet propulsion, submarines, movie-making, welfare programmes, the Volkswagen Beetle, Law & Order, animal welfare,, autobahns,” by Germany during the period of National Socialist government, or not?

I remember watching Horizon (or similar type programme) on TV where they were discussing Air Sea Rescue and peoples survivability in water. It seems a lot of the data the UK Air Sea Rescue teams use was gathered by the Nazi’s, in some cases using fatal techniques on prisoners. It posed the question wether we should use this data and thus save lives, or discard it?
    It’s certainly a tricky question.

    Hello Hampden 98,

I guess I have mixed feelings about Airsho this time round which is probably a reflection of my own geeky, detailed view of airshows 🙂

It did feel it was a little light and only one type participant in the static park and flying programme from the USAF (although it was an A-10 which I haven’t seen for a long time). Compared to the last time I went (2002) the warbird count was low which is more the reason for me going. This was a view supported from a more authoritative (slightly less obsessive) source at the Cavanaugh Flight Museum, photos of my visit will be posted soon.

After my introspection though I did tell myself not to be quite so critical as how many times do you get to see FiFi, 3 x B-25’s, a Helldiver and P-63 with only shelling out $20 for entry. My lasting memory, putting to one side my Avenger experience, was of FiFi flying over the top of us as we departed the airshow in the evening. I dread to think how many flies I caught as I stood there with my mouth open. 🙂

    Paul

Would still like to go again if only to see the B29 but it’s a long, long way from Hampshire in the UK!

Didn’t the Nazi’s loose all credibility (and thus all arguments for) when they started gassing children and burning them in ovens?

    Hi,

    thanks for the replies.
I’m not looking to replace my maps but more to supplement them for those occasions where the map and road sign don’t match and you get lost. Also for looking for parking, town areas hard to get to places etc.

I’m off to Hamilton for the airshow and though it might be useful for navigating an area I’ve never been before. For finding places not obvious or for marking a route before I travel. Might be handy navigating to from the airport etc.

Do I buy a SAT NAV and then add the maps or should I get a bundle? The Garmin bundle (previously mentioned) looks like a good one.

    ATB,

    Ted.

Are the Russian Knights still around?
I seem to recall the entire team (4 aircraft) flew into a mountain due to bad weather with sadly no survivors.

A good tactic I learnt while playing IL2. When being attacked from the rear push the nose forward, to temporarily place your aircraft beneath the vision of the other pilot and then break left or right.
By the time the attacker has pushed forward and tried to see where you have gone you are already pulling behind him either for an escape or go into the attack.
