It’s very evocative. Presumably the grey airman are the ghosts of their fallen comrades.

The only way humanity will progress is to use Nuclear followed by a complete farming of the energy from the sun.
So Nuclear is the only way until we can build a Dyson Sphere.
You may think this is extreme but it has already been demonstrated that you cannot build sufficient wind turbines to harness all our power needs, nor wave power.
There is also the law of diminishing returns. Wind turbine reliability and maintenance v cost v power. In other words when you have so many turbines the cost of maintenance will become prohibitive.
There is also the unsightly nature of them.
With the development of facilities that can recycle the waste from Nuclear power stations now coming online and the demonstrated reliability of new power stations I see that as the way forward.
Especially if we are serious about electric powered vehicles.

I like the bigger and different aircraft at Old Warden.
I went on Sunday to see and hear the Huey. A type I have never seen on the UK airshow circuit before in 30 years.
Lets not forget types like the Catalina have visited OW for at least 20 years and where else could you see an Avro Anson in formation with a Vulcan.

Airshows were different during the 80’s and 90’s.
We had more venues and more airshows. In the 90’s I could easily pick 20 shows to go to. Some months a show a week. We have also lost some nice venues like West Malling. Wroughton. Boscombe Down.
Warbirds were also a novelty. Not uncommon to find just a handfull at most shows like North Weald.
What we have lost is RAF participation due to loss of types. We have also lost a few stalworts like the Vintage Pair, RNHF, Mosquito.
I think the main thing we have lost is the family variety show. A mix of different types from Modern to vintage. Classic jets. Aerobatic. Pleasure. Civil. Display Teams. Parachuting.
I think some of the fun has dissapeared too. Acts like the Harvard Formation Team.
I also miss the famous commentator who use to commentate at Biggin Hill. I could listen to him all day.
So I now like to go to the smaller but more relaxed style of show. Old Warden, Lashenden, that sort.
I’ll still go to the bigger shows like Duxford but only if there is something special I want to see.

Do P51’s go over on their back though?
While I agree it’s probably better to have some protection the Sea Fury was definitely going over on it’s back in certain circumstances. I don’t recall a P51 doing so except in a major, probably non-survivable accident?
I wonder if the Mk1 Spitfires have had modifications to prevent the pilot being injured if they turn turtle? Didn’t the radio mast and seatbelt configuration pose a problem?

Only seems like yesterday the B25 was complete and standing outside at North Weald. In the days when we had two, possibly three resident flyers.

Which Harvard was this? There was one parked at White Waltham on Monday and the passenger was similarly dressed?

Apologies if this has been posted before. If you create a thread with a link and then try to delete the link you can’t, it just says “enter a valid url” after you have deleted the link and then try to save the thread. ?

Didn’t 110’s form a defensive circle that was difficult to penetrate?
Also could it be argued that Hurricanes needed Spitfire escort to deal with the 109’s while the Hurricanes took on the bombers?

Can’t you restore the data plates but keep the wreck as a museum exhibit, or is that not allowed?

“No takers, no guesses as yet, perhaps a clue may be in order? Certainly a toughie. “
Think in terms of the cast of both films (pretty easy I guess once you check that but also surprised me when I last watched the film).
