And upgrades or changes of software, I suspect, cost money. Yet, if a charge was to be suggested for the use of these forums I imagine there would be an outcry. It’s a fantastic free resource, just accept it and enjoy.

I’ve been a member here for ten years and in computer terms, as something of a technophobe, I guess you can call me a ‘n00b.’ However, in my ten years here I have managed to learn the correct spelling of the word really. :diablo:

It does strike me as somewhat strange that, with your obvious competence regarding all things relating to the computer, that you haver mastered the art of using spell checking SW.

It’s spelt haven’t and neither have you. Perhaps the forum could implement an auto spell checker with it’s next update?

The story is interesting but as an aside I love the fact that he ‘felt uncomfortable’ in is ‘warplane (that) so advanced that it was all but invisible to enemy radar’ as the Prowler radar jammers and the F-16s with anti-radar missiles. Surely everything is radar invisible if you have jammed or destroyed all the radar?!

I remember at the time someone I knew saying ‘how come they shot it down, surely it is radar invisible?’ and my answer was ‘perhaps, but it was not lead invisible!’

    How was it shot down?
I always thought it was by AAA. I would have thought being radar invisible doesn;t mean a lot if you can put a box barrage up in the path of the aircraft. True, radar improves accuracy, but if the lead hits the plane it goes down.

I’m reading the book `Fisaco` about the US war in Iraq.
The US military had to change their doctrine the first time they used Apaches in a close support role. These `invulnerable to gunfire` helicopters encountered heavy ground fire, most of which was rifle calibre. One Apache was shot down and all the remaining aircraft returned `shot up`.

I guess the Superpowers have forgotten that lead makes holes regardless of how expensive or advanced the thing it hits is!

Your assuming that the area hasn’t be (repetitively) inspected during the course of the aircraft’s life.

One would assume this to be the case with the burnt out aircraft also?

In fact, I would think most airlines would carry out an inspection of the area on a overnight stop and based on the finding either carry out there AD repair or wait for it’s next scheduled maintenance input.

I would hope in terms of safety nothing is assumed?

Fair points but I would rather know the aircraft was safe when I fly on it.

I would suggest that the reason other flight simulators are no longer around is that MS Flight Sim was a better. I’ve played many sims from the Vic20 to today and can say that FSX is the better sim. True some sims were better at a particular `thing` but FSX, for all it’s faults and it does have some, is still a better all rounder. Also remember that a lot of people who use simulators are not real world pilots.

I agree however that we may now get a better simulator. Prepar 3D and Aerosoft are two that spring to mind. In the meantime I am happy with FSX.

FSX is a viable simulator. But if you want reality go fly!

So let me get this straight…

Some airlines are bleating about cost.
The fault will be fixed within 24 months on all aircraft.

Another example of thombstone technology. 24 months could see a fatal accident happen. They should be grounded and fixed now. I wouldn’t be expected to travel on a bus with a brake defect. It seems I can fly on an aircraft with a life threatening one.

We should congratulate MS for extending the life of this flightsim fo some 20 years.
FSX still has many years of updates and inprovements. What MS gave us with FSX was a flightsim that could be expanded, coded without need for the source code. Just look at A2A and their excellent aircraft. Still lots of fun to be had with FSX.

Is this the low back Spitfire that was in bits at Evergreen Aviation during the 90’s?

They said the Vulcan wouldn’t fly again!
Oh yes. To see Concorde again. Wow! Watched it hundreds of times fly over my house but never saw it take off or display in style.
Although I’ll pass on a ride until they fix the fuel tank thing!

What causes that whistle, pueeew sound as the first engine fires up? Worth it just to hear that!

The software used by this forum looks to be a standard format so likely to have been purchased `off the shelf`. I’ve seen identical forums elsewhere. As such it’s unlikely to be that `customisable` by the web master. Perhaps the web guru can comment.
To fix you are most likely looking at an upgrade or change of software.

(The software used is https://www.vbulletin.com/ new version looks good.)

BTW I think you are being unkind to the original poster. His points are valid and the sort of functionality you would expect. I too find the software for this site a little buggy, old and tired. Could do with a lift.

p.s. Rearly, you didn’t know what SW and OS meant! What a bunch of computer n00bs! :dev2:

Thanks for making this an interesting thread.
What about ground effect, weight, drag/friction caused by the tyres (there’s probably a term for this)? Would a heavier aircraft and this effect, affect the results posted so far?

BTW what about a glider? My glider experience of bungee launching via a lorry was quite sudden and fast from a standstill, at least it seemed like it to me!

What happened. Aircraft has gear down so engine fail on approach maybe?
