If the Welsh want to learn Welsh as their primary language, or indeed their only language then that’s fine by me. In doing so they restrict themselves very dangerously in what is a global market place.
If the Welsh want to become a nation of shelf stackers then by all means go down that route. Any Welsh youngsters who want to succeed in life learn English and then Spanish, French, German, or any other language. This is what the job market demands.
If you want to learn Welsh do it as a hobby, nothing more.

If you want to see a Minute Man missile in it’s silo watch Star Trek First Contact. The warp drive space ship is the Minute Man in drag.

Is there a source of information regarding Huey losses in Vietnam?
I would imagine hundreds were lost but I bet not many in this way. As the wreck was found by a recon team it may have been investigated post war. Would be interested to know what the story was.

Yes, very Mulder and Sculley. Perhaps a CIA surveillance bird lost in suspicious circumstances. We can but fantasize.

As AlanL points out, the Venom is now in an RAF scheme marked up as “WR470” and operated by Classic Air Force (Classic Flight, as was).

The Vampire crash was later that same day (02/06/01), and was caused by the wake turbulence from the SeaVix during a tailchase display. The next day (Sunday), the Kingcobra also crashed at Biggin, and on the Monday the PR.XI Spitfire crashed at Rouen.

    An absolutely terrible few days.

Edited to add: I think the Vampire was ex-Swiss AF and not an ex-Vintage Pair aircraft.

    Thanks for the info.
A sad day indeed. From a glut of Vampires, Venoms and Meteors in the 80’s and 90’s (Great Warbirds Air Show possibly 89 or 90 had 4 Vampires, Venoms in formation I seem to recall one year) they have become very rare beasts.

When my dad came back from the pacific at the end of WW2 he had acrued quite a selection of trophies (he didn’t see action however). He told me he had a pistol, grenade (live), sword and various other Japanese memorabilia. The Navy, wise to this type of thing ordered all personel to hand in their equipment to clear customs. The items to be handed back once in port.
Of course the items were never returned and were dumped overboard.

Should my dad have been locked up for this. Nah. Given a slap probably for being bloody dangerous, but not locked up. It’s what servicemen do.

I’ve always enjoyed my visits to the museum. First time around 1977 I would guess. Miss the Anthony Quale narrated slide show in the BoB hall and the upstairs exhibits.

About 10 years ago at Biggin Hill Airshow a Venom (as part of a 3 ship with the Vixen) landed wheels up. Does anyone know what happened to the aircraft as I haven’t seen it since?

    Things to try;

    1) When in the airport bar ask for a review form. Fill it in, praise the bar tender and ask, in the comments box for “free beer”. I was given beer tokens and never paid for a beer for two weeks of flying!

    2) When flying South West Airlines, when they hand out complimentary peanuts ask for Raisins.

Not very exciting but good for a laugth.
BTW this was in the days when you could take a few beers on the plane and not be accused of trying to blow it up.

Hampden98 You actually hit a lot of point in my survey 🙂 (i.e. entertainment factor, trolley dolly influence, inconvenient of eating, cramp space, etc) I’ve come the right way!! Thank you for your great comment. If you have not done the survey could you please kindly do? I will be so sure that your comment will be use for my research. Thanks so much! 🙂

    Done!
