Am I right in thinking that to eject from the early Starfighters you had to roll upside down as the seat came out the bottom? Who thought up that design!

Is it known why the previous 190 ditched?
Is it possible these machines could be affected by the same problem?

A very interesting letter in the Times last week.

It said that all motorway planning and building had been based on a speed limit of 70 mph. That is to say sight lines, bend angles etc.

I wish I could afford to travel above 70 mph anyway. Fuel is too expensive for me to go dashing around at high speed.

To digress slightly onto dual carriage ways for a moment.
I had a hairy moment joining the A303 near Popham when, flooring the old banger down the slip (which was a curved slip with no view of the carriage way) I rounded the corner to find the slip had about 100 feet left!

The point being if we increase the speeds shouldn’t we increase the length of the slip roads?

This air-frame keeps cropping up with little noticeable progress.
So what’s the sticking point with the aircraft?
Seems like no one wants to restore it.
Is it lack of parts. Seems strange no one wants to get the sole potentially airworthy example in the air.
I bet if it was a Typhoon someone would snap it up.

Giving businesses a boost or a cynical voting ploy?

Will arriving a few minutes earlier really make that much difference?

Does it matter as everybody drives at 80mph+ now anyway?

Will it mean the average motorway speed goes up to 90mph+

    The minister involved says:-

“What we are doing here, is bringing a lot of drivers who currently, routinely break the speed limit, back on the right side of the law – and that has to be a good thing.”

So we change the law because some can’t be bothered adhering to the limit? Clearly genius at work here. Where would that particular way of thinking end?

I think we have more serious issues to deal with such as getting a weekly rubbish collection again ( I am joking):)

I don’t think travelling at 80 mph makes any difference so I’m against the increase.
Think about it. Over 5 hours you have traveled an additional 50 miles.
    Hardly worth the effort.
As soon as you hit traffic that gain is immediately lost.
Now think of all the idiots causing yet more accidents.
Also spare a thought for those of us with older, slower cars trying to merge with 80-90mph traffic.
70 is fine. People just need to learn to slow down a little.

I’m gonna set myself up for a flaming here:diablo: , but I was singularly underwhelmed when I recently saw BoB. I recorded it from Xmass and was really looking forward to seeing it again – last time was yonks ago.

OK – the flying/organisation/restoration/logistics etc. of putting this together was great…….but……the dialogue was terrible, the plot cliched, repetetive shots of planes taking off (sometimes mirror images)/gunners shooting, things exploding or falling out of the sky got quite irritating. The very weak plot was not helped by the wooden acting.

    (The Spitfires were lovely though.):D

When PJ finishes remaking The Dambusters……….

    DS

What the film needs is a `Special Edition`.
Replace all the old rubbish special effects with good quality CGI special effects. Maybe supplement the dog fight sequences with some CGI in cockpit footage and additional flying sequences.
It can be done just look at Dark Blue World.

    Skyraider is a combat aircraft.
Wouldn’t it be designed to take that kind of punishment?
I have no idea, just posing the question.

Shouldn’t we hope that time travel is not possible?
With time travel we open up pandoras box. History can be changed not only for the better but for the worse.
We might wake to find Germany won the war or that we just cease to exist.

Bottisham Airfield Museum is having an open day on Sunday 25th September 2011.

The museum’s existance is currently in doubt as our unique site is likely to be sold for residential development.

    http://www.361fg.com/images/General/DSC_4494.jpg

As we seek support for an alternate home we need a strong attendance on the 25th September to help prove the viability of the museum for the future. All forumites will recieve a very warm welcome.

Attractions will include two P-51 cockpit projects, military vehicles and re-enactors.

Many locals don’t even realise there was an airfield at Bottisham and we see the museum as playing an important role in educating future generations. During the war Bottisham was home to a number of RAF squadrons before the friendly invasion of the 361st FG, USAAF.

During its short lifetime the museum has built up some significant exhibits including a P-51 cockpit project, a USAAF link trainer, crash relics, aircraft parts, uniforms and hundreds of original photos.

The museum is 10 minutes from Cambridge and more details can be found at:-

Your support would be very much appreciated.

    Cheers

    Jason

Looks interesting, will visit on Sunday.
Never heard of the museum before, maybe you should address that?
