Jack Hawkins in The Cruel Sea.
Possibly the finest Sea war film ever made. Interestingly doesn’t age as there are no special effects. All action is real.

Thanks. Do you know why it was at Blackbush?

Modelzone was always a bit hit and miss for me. Airfix, Revell and Hasegawa? Nothing in between.

Best display I ever saw was Mr Grey flying the P38 one press day, a Thursday I thing it was.
Lots of boom and zoom flying. Didn’t realise the 38 was such a capable aircraft.

While it’s sad a little piece of history is going you have to accept that not every piece of WW2 Aviation can, or should be saved.
It is after all an old factory. Hopefully someone can record what’s there before it’s gone.

Didn’t they try this with ATM charges. Everybody just stopped using those ATM’s that charged.
So one bank will write of the charges and everyone will flock to them. Then the charges idea will get dropped.
Nothing to see here, move along, move along.

I wonder what the logistics of using a foreign account, say American would be?

    Commentators.
I think they add a great deal to an airshow, well, at least some of the old favorites at displays gone by.
    I can’t remember who used to commentate at Biggin Hill but listening to him was a joy. Who can remember such classics as;
“The Lancaster can fly at 180knots, a few more with a Ju88 on it’s tail”,
“Would the owner of car reg XXXYYY please return to attend to his Duck”,
“It would appear the Swordfish has dropped his fish in the Thames Estuary” – Swordfish without tinfish displaying.
and another I just remembered one very wet and overcast Biggin Hill.
“Only two aircraft can display today. Concorde because of it’s advanced avionics and the Swordfish which doesn’t have any!”.
    Ahh, happy days.

A good call by ‘The Boss’. I wonder if the sad accident to Howard Pardue had any bearing on his decision?

Thanks for over three decades of great displays Stephen.

More likely getting old was the deciding factor in his decision!
Probably much rather spectate and drink beer, oh, wait, no, that’s me 🙂

Is this the ex Champlin Museum example? Seem to recall it was a ground runner in 98.
