out of the below, the UH-1 and AH-1 are going to be given for
free I think. the Bells and the Mils both in civilian config have/will be paid for.40 Bell 406s
26 Bell 412s
40 UH-1s
40 AH-1s
24 MI-17s
I was under the impression that the Bell 407s (not 406s) had been cancelled and substituted by the Bell 412EP order? I still haven’t seen confirmation of how large the order actually is, but a spokesman at Mirabel (the factory in Canada where BHTI build them) was quoted as saying “around a dozen”.
The supply of UH-1H/V Hueys could be a problem….and it’s complicated!
I know that as recently as late May there was still no sign of any work going on to the batch earmarked for Pakistan as some friends of mine paid a visit to Temple, Texas where they are all stored awaiting attention. The reason for this apparent lack of progress was puzzling…until news broke in the past couple of weeks that the US DoD has put a stop to most FMS deals involving the Hueys because rebuilt and refurbished Huey IIs are going to be a contender for the US Army’s LUH (Light Utility Helicopter) programme! It’s only natural that they will want to cherry-pick the most suitable airframes for a programme which requires over 300 choppers. No decision is expected to be made on the winner until August 2005.
The possible good news for Pakistan is that some of the FMS deals are apparently going to be honoured. However, at the moment, I’ve yet to see any details for that whatsoever.
There has been some recent progress with AH-1F supply via FMS, but not to Pakistan that I’m aware of.

Ja,
this is why it came as a surprise:
This amendment is issued to cancel combined synopsis/solicitation W58RGZ-04-R-0547 in its entirety. All proposals received in response to this solicitation were technically unacceptable. There were considerable technical challenges associated with integration issues, delivery leadtimes, sensors and communications. Therefore, the requirement is being redefined and will be issued as a new combined synopsis/solicitation under Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Part 12, Commercial Items, on or about 16 Jun 04.
That cancellation was issued on June 8th and the synopsis/solicitation was for the order which it appears the Seeker is being purchased to fill. So, when I read a week ago that all proposals were “technically unacceptable” and that a new proposal would be issued today, it came as a surprise to see that an order has been announced!
The company are refusing to comment on the announcement, apparently.
Incidentally, there is still no official notification of the contract award…..
Cheers

Does Halmstad also still have the former Dutch Navy Bell 204? It used to be there in the early 1990s, still painted in full Marineluchtvaartdienst-colours (they were retired in 1974). Haven’t heard much about it later, although there was a lot of talk going on getting it back to the Netherlands.
Art, I saw it there in 2001…sat outside the hangar that the museum uses as a workshop/restoration area, but I think it’s used as a GIA.
In fact I saw three ex-MLD 204s on that short weekend trip (we did the open days at Laage and Uppsala in one weekend: 3,000 miles in an LDV!) as there was one each at Vasteras and Skavsta. I think the Skavsta one has come back home for the Soesterberg museum.
Anybody interested in this thread may also want to check out some details on future Swedish air defence plans posted by Lars Hammarberg just yesterday.

the gap between the F-8 and the Rafale was enormous like your derrier.
Hammy, I just can’t resist asking you how big YOU think that gap was!
C’mon I’m dying to know π π π
Steve
Something you could forward to me, as well? π
No problem, Flex, although you may have been aware of some of this already as it involves Slovakia and the Czech Republic:
Slovak MiG-21s Sold to Angola?
Kyrgyz Mi-24 Supplied to Liberia via Slovakia
Twelve Czech Su-25K Sold to Georgia
The Touchdown-News archive (25,000 messages now!) is set for non-members to read at the moment so there’s no registration required: just click on the hyerlinks to access. Maybe you can add some more info, Flex, if you’ve read anything in Slovak concerning the pieces.

That’s the one I think Arthur was talking about further up the page, Ja.
It’s a bar in Kessel, Belgium, Art…not far from Antwerp. I’m pretty sure it’s still there…certainly still around in 2002, IIRC.
Steve
p.s. Art, be sure to check your Digest today…more about those Prerov Su-25s, Liberian Mi-24s and Angolan MiG-21s π
Steve…
Su-15TM = Su-21 π
Flex
Flex,
every serious site I’ve checked says something along these lines:
The other production version was the Flagon-D which was simply a Flagon-A with a longer fuselage, the new wing design, and the larger ailerons.*This Su-15 variant and all Flagon’s that followed were often referred to as Su-21’s by NATO observers who did not know its true bureau designation.*Su-21 was never a Sukhoi bureau designation for the ‘Flagon’.
So it’s not me you need to persuade, but about 1,000,000 Soviet aircraft enthusiasts! π π
I’m sure Art and/or Ken can tell us more. To be honest I had never even seen or heard of the “Su-21” before your post today…that’s how little I know about Flagons (except for the kind with beer in)! π
Steve
There are a pair of great-looking F-100F Super Sabres in the collection at Glenn L. Martin, Baltimore still painted in their US Army markings. Think they were both used as chase planes during live firing tests at White Sands.
Here’s one:

Saw the Chillis in a great little club in Tijuana in either late ’89 or early ’90…forget which. Was a cool place for a gig so went several times during my So Cal sabbatical. Even saw The Mission supported by the Wonderstuff there. A run-down little dive in Mexico full of Brummie accents that night…most surreal
Flex, I’m pretty sure Art’s right: I think it’s an ex-Ukrainian Su-15TM

Agree about Sven: we could do better with the players available.
Scholes wide left is a waste of time. All the best sides, club and country, have balance. Push Ashley Cole into left midfield and play Wayne Bridge at left back (he’s a better defender in any case). Look how many times Gallas was able to overlap down that flank for France.
Scholes should be competing with Owen and Rooney for the places up-front. Scholes’ best role isn’t much different from how Rooney played last night, ie linking midfield with Owen.
The substitutions were almost as bad as Ranieri’s baffling changes in Monaco last month. Fine to withdraw Scholes (ineffective and anonymous) but replace him with Butt and flood midfield. Taking Rooney off was a joke. Yes, he started to look tired, but get the game WON then worry about the “next match”. Luxury substitutions are for when you’re 3-0 up and playing the opposition off the park, not when you’re clinging onto a 1-0 lead and taking a battering.
Heskey? He plays for Birmingham City as of next season. ‘Nuff said. π
Isn’t it less than 12 months since the first FC-1 flew?
If six of the jets that Zimbabwe have ordered really are ready for delivery “next week”, I think you can rule out them being FC-1. It’s not a question of production time but just “writing the manual” on how to fly and maintain the thing in service!
As the Zimbabwe AF F-7IIN aircraft are almost 20 years old now, isn’t it far more likely that any new deliveries will be of F-7MG jets?

Hmmm we only have your word for that, Snapper.
Ren…I think Alphonse Karr beat my high-pitched namesakes to that quotation somewhow…as it dates from 1849!
Charming, Floody! The title was the only “original” bit wot I writ! I thought it would keep the Riff-Raff out…but it didn’t deter Mr. Pants π
I hope all of the leggy Polish, Czech & Slovakian blonde waitresses will appear in all future promotional photos of your iniquitous den, Art & ELP π
