Did I visit NEAM back in about ’90/’91 as a 11/12 year old aviation freak whose love of the venerable Chipmunk started with this picture? I know the museum was to the west of Sunderland and checking on Google Earth it seems NEAM is to the west…

Yes, it is me in the picture 😮

The Vulcan entered service in 1953 and 55 years down the line is loved by thousands (millions?) of people throughout the western world.

In 55 years time can people really expect the same of the Raptor?

    No, me neither!

How does all this ‘advice’ not to wear uniforms tie in with Broons ideas about swearing an oarth to Queen and country?

Being an instructor with 1011 Amesbury ATC at Boscombe Down I get to see (just) the gate guard, XL629, the only preserved P11-T4 in the world.
Whilst I understand getting permission to enter gate to photograph her is not difficult I haven’t yet ventured up there with my camera… but you will be first to know when I do!

I can only think of some of the original sequences that appear in Dambusters.

    THANKYOU ALL!

Rocketeer, I did think it was somewhat strange that a museum opened only two years ago ‘in a blaze of glory’ could be allowed to become considered a health hazard in only a couple of years!

I will be seeing my BD acquaintance at the end of the week so I will direct him here in order to correct his ‘knowledge’.

David, I will speak to our squadren co, Andy Membury on Friday about contacting you and arranging a visit probably some time in April.

    Boscombe Down museum no go!

Yesterday I was speaking to somebody I know who works at Boscombe Down about the possibility of an Air Cadet visit to the Boscombe Down museum.
    http://www.airsceneuk.org.uk/hangar/museums/boscombe/boscombe.htm

I was amazed when he told me that no personell, to his knowledge are allowed to visit the museum because it is considered too dangerous.

He also stated that despite being launched in a blaze of glory a couple of years ago it has very quickly degenerated into scrap dump for anything at Boscombe which nobody has any use for and is of absolutly no interest as it is all literally junk!

The f104 was the Widow Maker….but only the German ones. Didn’t they try and turn it into a high speed bomber or somesuch?

The Tornado is a Mighty Fin, but the servicemen I know refer to it as Tonka.
The americans call our Harrier T10’s the T birds.

The A350 is already the Nightmare liner.

Does anybody know why the Tornado is known as the Tonka and does it only apply to GR1/4s or also include F3s?

Personally I think text speak is a significant factor in the causes of ‘illiteracy’ amongst kids/young adults today.

I received two text messages from a teenage girl I work with, the first enquiring about her transport to work was 18 words long only 5 were spelt properly and the second was 14 words long with only 6 spelt properly, the rest was in ‘text speak’.

She may be able to write those two sentances out correctly now but in say 5 years time of regular text speak will she still be able to or by then will she be classed as illiterate?

I did hear many years ago the Nazi swastika is actally the mirror image of a religious(?) symbol that means good luck.

Is this true or was I fed bull?

I’ve looked on Google Earth and I can see the Phantom on the dispersal but not a Harrier. In the area where the two runways cross and the craters are I have seen what looks like a Hunter.
