Oh dear. Ewan Hoozarmy, I don’t think that my local NHS Trust will pay for the tablets (I do hope satire is allowed here). On the plus side, thanks for telling me what it is, but the downside is I can’t spend the rest of the day gloating to my friends that I’ve seen a Spitfire.

    You can now…

    Kinda ;D

I haven’t laughed this much for a very long time!

When I marshalled aircraft 15 years ago as a Cadet this was exactly the sort of thing we would have love to have done to relieve the monotomy a bit, but I guess our CO wouldn’t have approved…!

    TSR2, what if?

If the TSR2 had entered service in the RAF how would that have changed things?
Looking at the stats for the TSR2 compared to the V bombers on Wiki the only bomber the TSR2 is comparable with is the Vulcan (similer payload but half the range). Would this have meant the Vulcan would have been retired from service sooner and not have been used in the Black Buck mission in 1982?
Would aircraft like the Buccaneer have been required in RAF service or would it have remained only in service with the Navy?

I live just down the road from Boscombe, can you say at what time the flight(s?) will be at?

Will you be able to get anywhere near any aircraft on the ground or will we have to park nearby and walk to the airfield?

Does Middle Wallop count as there is RAF personnel based there, I’m not sure if the RAF ensign is one of the flags flown at the enterance?

Top secret aircraft exist at, amongst others I suspect, Groom Lake in the US but as for where they are stored/tested in this country I really don’t know.

20 years ago I know most (all?) testing was done at A&AEE Boscombe Down but in recent years the Southampton UAS has moved in, in ’98 there was a one off Concorde flight from there and there is even talk of it becoming an airport!

Whereabouts now do they test UK aircraft from as I can’t imagine them flying many top secret prototypes from Boscombe any more!!!

Saab Viggen, what are the forums views on this as a fighter, was it any good back in the 70s and 80s when compared with other (ground attack) fighters of the time?

Why does everybody automatically asume that Russia would have started WW3 with an invasion of Europe, surely they could have acheived more by invading Alaska?

From the Western most point of Alaska to the Canadian border is only 770 miles, to the US border only 2000 miles and to Washington DC 4100 miles.

I would have thought landing on Americas doorstep having to contend with the Canadian Army to have provided much more of a morale boost to Soviet troops than having to battle through Austria, Hungary, Poland, Czechoslovakia and East Germany before encountering any American troops.

My wife has bought me for Christmas a year’s subscription of “Pilot” magazine. It is a good read and i cannot grumble.

Definatly a good present, especially after seeing WP840 gracing its pages last month! 😀

Can anybody tell me if Fighter Boys by Patrick Bishop is worth keeping on my Christmas list?

I’m struggling to convince my Mrs 840 that there is nothing wrong with having a slightly ott interest in aviation and all things Chipmunk so am starting small with my Christmas aviation books list.

Can anyone also recommend a good Chipmunk book, hopefully including WP840 somewhere inside?
