I’ve just had a look at Davis Monthan AFB on Google, how many aircraft are there awaiting scrapping?

    Hello,
I’m a Drummer, so not really qualified to comment on the Strat’s playing qualities. However, as an ICON it probably has no equal in the musical world! They DO have to be Fiesta Red though!
On the subject of Design Icons, what do you think of the following? (in no particular order of merit):
    Napier Deltic Diesel Engine.
Vespa Scooter (NOT the current one – the original all-steel one).
    Eames Chair.
    Avro Vulcan.
What are YOUR favourite Design Icons?
    Regards
    Paul

    Desert Storm

Were the Jaguars that the RAF used in the Gulf as low tech as these and if so did that make them harder to intergrate with the better equiped aircraft used by USAF?

That will be the one for Pilot ‘s then.:D

The aircraft featured in this article is WP840, now G-BXDM, is the first Chipmunk I flew in as an Air Cadet in 1990.

It’s good to know she is being treated like a star!!!!!

What is so special about the Vulcan?

Before I start I just want to say that I think the job of getting ‘558 back into the air was certainly a truly worthwhile venture carried out extremely well by ‘the team’!

But what I would like to know is why has ‘558 attracted such a huge following and such a massive amount of money to get it back into the air whereas there are hundereds of other aircraft that have served with equal distinction sitting idly in scrap yards throughout the country?

    How many of these aircraft that helped the allies win World War 2 are still flying;
Battle, Blenheim, Boston, Fortress, Halifax, Hampden, Hudson, Lancaster, Liberator, Manchester, Mitchell, Mosquito, Stirling, Ventura, Wellington or Whitley or Battle Of Britain fighters or the many ground breaking prototypes?

On my honeymoon on the Channel Islands we flew over to Jersey on G-FTSE and saw G-JOEY at both Jersey airport and Guernsey airport. I also saw the other two of Aurigny’s Britten-Norman BN-2As but didn’t make not of the serials http://www.airliners.net/search/photo.search?regsearch=G-JOEY&distinct_entry=true
Unfortunatly FTSE wasn’t decorated in the yellow and blue scheme, it wore the usual Aurigny scheme shown in photo 1.

Why doesn’t the UK disband their armed forces and outsource their national defense to the United States? I think this is a great idea! I’m sure the US military would do a great job and for very reasonable price.

Can’t see why not, they outsource a lot of jobs already in the forces already!

I should know, I work for one of the companies that is contracted to the Army Air Corps.

There is already another thread here on a similar theme, entitled ‘you must be kidding’. The long and the short of it is that the UK armed forces are being sent to perform tasks that they are not funded to perform. The UK government is finding out the hard way that one can not punch above ones weight in terms of military affairs.

The important part of the header is about wether people believe in the armed forces of this country.

When people hear that they are being sent to fight in (yet) another war do people actually believe they are going to make a difference?

Or do they think lack of proper equipment and a lack of troop numbers combined with possible morale problems due to poor kit and high death rates are seriously affecting how our troops are performing?

Some footage of the Tom Cruise movie “Valkyrie”, about the July Plot to assassinate Hitler, on the Empire film forum.

    Valkyrie footage

Lots of clips of warbirds in there, such as Ju.52s and Me109s (Spitfire Ltd’s Buchon and EADS’s Bf109G-6).

I’m no big fan of The Cruise, but I’m actually looking forward to seeing this.

After looking at the pictures on the Valkyrie film website can somebody explain why the aircraft painted as the Red Barons Triplane in pictures 1, 17 and 19 quite clearly has only two wings not three?

Am I correct in understanding the aircraft that crashed bore the civvie registration G-HURR?

If so can this registration be transferred to one of the other flying Hurricanes in this country?

I don’t see anything wrong with it being posted here because of the historic aircraft content:) Very nice photo’s!

But could it not also be posted in the photographic section? 😉
