I have seen this bird wearing several different coats over the years but am curious to know how much does a different coat of paint cost to apply and how long does the respray take?
Phew for a moment I thought I was the only one!! Not a good day at all.
As to the feeder, they did at least provide us with lunch (eventually), but then closed at 3, so between then and 6.20 when we went home, we couldn’t get any refreshments at all on what must have been one of the hottest days of the year!!
I said I wasnt going to say anything else in my previous post….well I just have. Sorry for all those who didnt go, you may not understand what all the fuss is about, but a little more thought was needed in the day’s organisation.
Best wishes,Martin
Considering on a daily basis we cook for and clean up after thousands of soldiers in the three messes on camp I was really expecting at least on of them to be open as per a week day to cater for the thousands of visiters. π

I worked at Wallop with Aramark on Saturday and I was disgusted with how poorly arranged this day was!
The Aircrew Feeder is a small building usually used only by flying crew for their food and drink whilst on the airfield and has room for 38 people. 400 people had to use this on Saturday.
Can anybody recall the person who several years ago was gaining access to many military sites by wearing a high ranking army officers uniform? Suprisingly this person was caught and arrested whilst trying this at Wallop.
Security has been improved in recent months with the installation of a 4 metre tall barbed wire topped security fence around the airfield replacing 1 metre tall fence but most of the entrance points through this were left wide open with nobody controlling who passes through.
Security on military sites became very difficult when civillians were being increasingly used to fill many military roles on camp. And yes, I am saying this speaking as a civvie contractor!
I work (as a civvie) at Middle Wallop and today was the AACs 50th anniversary parade attended by Prince Charles. At 17.00 the BBMF were due to do a small display but at no time did I hear the familer drone of the Merlins in the sky despite the fact I was never more than 2 miles away from the airfield.
Reading this has filled me with a feeling of complete loss as I now know the reason why.
My sincere condolonces go out to the family and friends of the pilot but also to the many spectators who witnessed this truely tragic accident.
As the Sea King fleet is getting a little long in the tooth, when can we expect a replacement and what would be the most suitable replacement?
Personally, I have no question that it should be the Merlin.
I can’t see how that would affect how it performs at SAR, I mean a number of Wessex were used for SAR for some years after they were withdrawn from frontline service.
Which aircraft carried JFKs coffin with his wife after he was shot in 1963?
I think you’ll find this better; it whistles, screams and growls – oh and frightens every cat and dog in a 5 mile radius along with setting off every car alarm and waking every baby from here to Vulcan, Alberta, USA
You might need to adjust the volume (up preferably), click on the little speaker, bottom right.
9 minutes 25 seconds of the most incredible noise in the UNIVERSE!
One major concern would be that the number of aircraft on QRA is less than eight, which could present problems. If the eight bombers all fly in formation, then they can be escorted by a couple of fighters, but if they fly apart, then you get real problems meeting them all…
I thought the Bears Putin sent over were reconnaissance aircraft, if not surely between eight Typhoons they can carry enough missiles to down 20 Bears between them?
Pity you couldn’t bring your wedding forward a couple of weeks.
I hope the weatherβs good for you during your stay, I can see from my desk that the sun is shining here in St Helier at the moment and is forecast to do so for the next week or so.
Unfortunately the same can’t be said about Jersey’s 13th parish, Guernsey, where it’s a bit like the Midlands, lots of rain with the addition of a population that all share the same passport photograph.
Mind you their occupation museum is superb and not as commercial as the Jersey War Tunnels. If you do nothing else during your stay in Guernsey, make sure you drop in there, quite a bit of aviation content.
We had already decided to visit the war tunnels and occupation museum (her idea not mine suprisingly enough!) and also visit the war hospital on Jersey. We’ve seen on quite a few photos of the coast on both islands that there appears to be a reasonably number of WWII pillboxes scattered along the shoreline.
Are there any other sites (specifically aviation related) I, err we can visit during our time there?

Can somebody have a word with the orginisers as I’m honeymooning on Jersey for the last week in September and on Guernsey for the first week in October, can they not have a little flyabout then?
Does anybody have a picture as I’m finding it very difficult to imagine this?
WOW
This is quite simply the best airshow picture I have ever seen…!
After Googling flyable Concorde I found that there are no plans for any British Concordes to be kept in flying condition but 4 French Concordes are going to be preserved in flying condition in museums.
Is this a quiz?
Afraid not, at least there’s no prizes! :p
What is the serial number of the very first Spitfire to enter RAF service?
