There is not. Probably mistaken for an Alphajet.

I have seen an Alphajet flying around Boscombe many times and from certain angles they really can resemble a jaguar!

Sorry, I knew about the AIM-9’s / ASRAAMs on the inboard pylons but I’m wondering about ASRAAMs / AMRAAMs on the other pylons.

A bit of a bump with a slight variation on the original question. Could the Tornado GR1 and can the GR4 carry AAM’s on their pylons? Is the on board computer programmed to operate these weapons?

At 0815 I saw a Hercules heading south flying over Marlow and at 0955 I saw a Tristar, an aircraft I heven’t seen for years and even then that was at an airshow! 😀

As I drove past Boscombe Down today (heading 024, 0 feet :p) I saw the ETPS 1-11 landing on runway 05, immediately after it’s wheels touched down Piper PA-31 pulled on to runway and readied for take off while one of the 2 ETPS Gazelles flew over heading approx east – west at the opposite end of the runway at about 2000 foot.

For me it can only be a Lightning F6 doing several (very) low level fly bys down the length of the runway at Boscombe Down in full afterburner! 😀

So which counts as the oldest still in military use? Given the above, does something on Salisbury Plain count (Middle Wallop? Boscombe Down?) or could it be Halton which also started in 1913?

Someone on Flyer is suggesting that Farnborough also goes back to 1912 as a military station (earlier with lighter-than-air?).

    Upavon I believe.

And I always thought the first military airfield was on Salisbury Plain at Larkhill. 😮

At Marlow this afternoon I saw a pair of Merlins flying over heading north west at about 2000 foot at 14.30.

I thought the IAT alternated between Fairford and Boscombe Down, 1992 was the last time it was held at BD for whatever reason but having attended both I felt the layout of the runways at Boscombe made for a better display of static aircraft and merchandise stalls.

Will she always be hidden from view 100 metres inside Boscombe Down or could XL629 be placed on the grass opposite the outer guard room where everyone will be able to get a much better view of her?

A couple out at Boscombe Down this lunchtime, at 11.45 an Alpha Jet came in and landed on Runway 23, 5 minutes later a Hawk flew in about 500 foot and banked to follow Runway 23 and about a minute later a grey Merlin flew in. At about 11.55 the Hawk flew over again heading 230 and then at 12.00 it flew over again this time at high spped on the same heading.

Yesterday 11/2 at 1615 I was driving on M4 3 miles west of Theale when a Chinook flew over heading south at about 4-500 foot.

    Vulcan 607 😎

I glanced at my copy of Vulcan 607 on the book case in my bedroom this morning and thought that it would make a fantastic film!
