Why did they leave the Bucc’s air-brakes open, surely that would make it much harder for the truck on the motorways…?
It’s far to easy to dismiss the Vulcan as being somehow less significant than WWII (or WWI) aircraft whereas it could be argued that it is more significant than the whole lot.
I spoke with Bob Tuxford on Thursday (although not specifically about this) and I’m sure he’d agree with this!
They wheel the Be-42/A-40 out at every Gelendzhik show……
Ken
I think the Be-42/A-40 was the first Russian aircraft I fell in love with as a teenager.
I know, most teens went for sexy celebs but I went looking overseas! 😉
I think one of the most tantalising what ifs, is if the RAF had replaced the Nimrod MR.2 with the Be-200 Mermaid.
Can you imagine seeing them in a two tone grey moored at the bouys of Mount Batten or Pembroke Dock, aswel as land based at Mawgan or Kinloss, real Coastal Command stuff!
Can somebody who is better at Photoshopping show us what an RAF Mermaid might look like?
The RAF Jetstreams had a batch serials XX50x and the new aircraft of that type coming in to the Navy and being tested at Boscombe Down are serialed ZZ50x. 😎
1125 a twin engined prop, very similer to Jetstream but don’t think they fly at BD
any more, flew in and landed. Saw it being towed across airfield to hangars
I’ve had a look on Google and I think the aircraft was/is a Beechcraft Avenger. The Royal Navy/FAA currently have a few, ZZ50x, I found a couple of pictures on flickr taken at Hurn but I’m not sure if that is a permanent location or if they operate out of a FAA station.

Another intersting morning of aircraft flying at Boscombe,
1040 Alpha Jet takes off
1045 Hawk takes off
1050 Alpha seen, not sure if same as 1040 or a second one gotten airborne
Gazelle takes off
Tutor airborne
E109 Power hovering over Rotary Wing at about 2-300 foot for a minute or
so before climbing rapidly to about 2000 foot

any more, flew in and landed. Saw it being towed across airfield to hangars
1145 I saw a Chinook a few miles away flying over and around Larkhill
1150 a Hawk did a couple of circuits and touch and goes
1230 a Tornado GR4 flew in at about 200 foot wings swept down runway 05.
The way the flypast had been hyped up in the press and on TV you would have expected something better than what was shown – cockpit coverage, the aircraft approaching the palace and then cutting to the balcony and the aircraft not seen again. Just for a few seconds they could have shown the planes as they flew over and away, but no. It was crap.
I agree, I was hoping to have had some shots of the BBMF trio from the ground and possibly of the Spitfire and Hurricane filmed from the Lanc but overall it was pants! Why did we need to see frequent shots of Jake Humphrey in the Lancaster?

How will the death of Bin Laden affect the UK’s operations in the Afghanistan area? Could Harriers be more use there than Tonks and Typhoons?
a couple of hundred miles north mate 😀 im at NEAM not NAM lol
I thought L7 might have missed a letter as I couldn’t see what relevance the National Army Museum had! :p

A pleasant 4 mile walk to Stonehenge, spent about an hour admiring stones and surrounding landscape (well I’m not paying £7.50 to stand 50m from it!) and I took a couple of ‘not bad’ pictures.

2 pictures taken of Voyager sat just off runway 17/35 yesterday, must have been having various systems checks and evaluations as was silent for about an hour.
You might just be able to make aircraft out in centre of picture, I don’t have a zoom on my camera and if you try and take photo from fence you’ll very quickly have company!
