Driving home on the A303 today I was in right hand lane overtaking a truck, as there was another truck 100 yards or so in front of it I didn’t rush back in to left lane. Behind me a guy about 55+ with his wife in passenger seat came up behind me at considerable speed and when it was clear I wasn’t moving over he put on his full beam lights to let me know he was coming. I waited a couple of seconds forcing him to slow a little but because he clearly had no regard for his or his wife’s lives I moved over as I seriously imagined him rear ending me!
Last week again I was on A303 but heading to work and again was overtaking 2 trucks when an older (again 55+) came up behind me speeding, as a truck driver myself I know how annoying it is when car drivers squeeze into space in front of forcing me to slow so I stayed where I was. This driver stuck only a metre or two from my rear bumper for about 15-20 seconds as I overtook front truck before shooting off at speed when I pulled in. This second incident really did freak me out how close she thought it safe to drive despite the fact as we age our reaction times slow.

Nice to know you get them up there too mate. The other favourite down here is leaving it so late to indicate that they end up telling you what they’ve just done not what they intend to do. Anyone would think there was a tax on using indicators.

As a truck driver who spends about 6 hours a day driving I see this so many times a day I very quickly stop counting! 😡
They don’t like it though, if I don’t see the car entering the roundabout directly in front of me signalling to turn right I will move onto roundabout forcing driver to slow. I haven’t yet had one driver beep their horn at me for this which says to me they knew they were in the wrong (which makes it much worse!).

I’m about to show my ignorance of certain aspects of the RAF but are the codes on the top of the tails (EB-R, GO-Y and GO-C) the same as the codes seen on the side of WW2 RAF aircraft (PM-M2 being the most well known)?

My new job is already getting a little annoying. I’m a driver for Switch http://www.switchintl.com/ and after a 12 hour day yesterday 7.70-1930 I had to start at 6 this morning and at 4 I was asked when I’d finished my collections in Eastleigh, got back to the yard in Andover, emptied the truck would I want to do an extra drop in Southampton that had been overlooked when all of the trucks went out?
This would have made my 13 hour day into a 14.5 hour day, needless to say I said “no” and the guy in the office who asked me really didn’t sound surprised.

My wife and I went to hospital this morning to the antenatal ward so she could have another scan and general check up on her pregnancy and everything was absolutely as it should be! 😀
The baby was being a bit of a git though as he was wriggling about a lot making it difficult to get a good image of him. :p

Of course it’s more complicated than that but these are the key points. Many of the stories surrounding TSR2 just don’t have any foundation when you look into them. They’ve drifted around for years and people repeat them, embellish them, and so it goes on. It’s an interesting story and one which shows what a phenomenally impressive aircraft TSR2 might have been, given unlimited time and money. But it was way too much far too soon. Even though Mountbatten was a complete b*stard, he was actually right – the RAF should have bought the Buccaneer.

If you say something often enough it must be true?
I’ve often wondered how the TSR2 would have fared had it entered service and how the RAF would have differed in the 80’s without the Tornado. It seems as if either their wouldn’t have been an airforce (MoD bankrupt after massive cost over runs on TSR2 project) or not one country would ever have taken our military ‘might’ seriously!
Every cloud has a silver lining.

Has anybody got any nice pictures of a Tornado and a Buccaneer at low level during GW1?

Hearing that Mr B and his `gang of thieves` have dissolved parliment.

Roll on 6 May and au revoir

A lovely day out in Poole, spent the morning travelling (1.5 hour trip) had a nice lunch at Yates then spent a couple of hours walking around shops, looking in lifeboat museum and relaxing on The Quay. Particularly nice as the weather was just right and as my wife is due to give birth to our first child in 11 weeks we won’t get too many chances to have a full day out exploring.
