When the area off Seletar in Singapore which was the moorings for the flyingboats based there was reclaimed several years ago remains of a Catalina were recovered.
This was one that had been sunk at its moorings during a strike by Japanese aircraft.
I understand that nothing was worth saving everything went to the scrapmen.
I doubt whether there is anything left in Singapore or for that matter Hong Kong.
Good to see Shahahom Ahmad of the MHG posting here he and his group have done sterling work in Malaysia especially as regards KL654 and others.
Regards gentlemen.
625 Squadron
I am researching the loss of Lancaster PB126 ‘T’ of this squadron shot down on the night of 30th June/1st July after successfully attacking the railway yards at Veirzon in France.
I have narrowed the attacker down to a JU88C flown by either Hptm Heinz-Horst Hissbach of 5/NJG 2 or Oblt Franz Brinkhaus of 6/NJG 2 Is there anyone who could tell me which of these gentlemen was likely to have the victor on this occasion.
Back to the original thread of the BBMF sixth Spitfire it is worth remembering that the build/rebuild? of the wings for this aircraft was paid for by The Lincolnshire Lancaster Association (LLA)
This association has in the pass funded many important projects for BBMF.
Well done to all the members many of them come from places milesl away from Coningsby and Lincolnshire.
The no.1 Sqdn Spit LA255 stirs the memories for me.
I remember it being on the gate at RAF Cardington in 1955 and remember as I passed through those gates and looked at her it suddenly came home to me – I was joining the RAF!!
Thanks for the post DCW. Brings back memories of the 22 ship Lightning scramble that always opened the Coltishall BoB day display.
Absolute magic, shall never see or hear anything like that again.
Yup! Same here, site not available.
IWM London
I agree with planemike. Please don’t do a IWM North on the London site!!
I really like No.2 and No.3, the shots from ground level. Would like to try something like that next time I am at Duxford but afraid the old knees would not like it.
Thanks for sharing.
The Firefly would be my choice.
I would think that at this moment that is the last thing they are thinking about!
