BIT,
the proposal came in 99, but the deal wasn’t signed untill 2003 and that too with an advance payment of $350+million, and the first one is to come in only after 2007.
BTW, I am sure, by 2003, the MESA was also ready and some delivery was also carried out. But lets not bring down the thread to this issue.
Can u givve the link to article on the Korean affair for the MESA, some quotes from which u posted??
And guys info on the Swiss, Brazalian , and the RN’s Helo based AEW.
Hey, c’mon , i wasn’t feeling sorry for the US, after all American economy lives on CREDIT…….. and the real HEAT of that living on CREDIT wud be seen when everyone converts their holdings to Euro. which means the the number of nations that SUBSIDISES the US economy will fall, BTW, Iran converted to Euro, and Iraq was to follow suit. But …. its now, Euros days ahead …….
and the Link was put coz Flex asked earlier in the thread as to h much is the US debt. And as an Indian I know, i too have some debts (like that mentioned for American citizens) ….. coz of the Govts over – read wastage – spending and borrowings and some of the very stupid policies.
Sens,
can u tell it more cleary what u meant, i did not understand what u said.
The missile looks like the Kh-31 …… so how much did this missile or say the test of this ramjet in a missile frame gain from the Russian sale of X-31 to the US??
Harry bhai, when r we gonna see ur page??
Any more pic of the Bars-29??….. is it that the mechanical scanning that was on the Bars has been done away???… or is it still there? ……
at first sight this image confused me, as to what kind of Mig-29 is it…. or if it was a future variant, which got thru mind coz of the fellows standing infront of it.
And any new spec on the MiG-29M2, have the guys confirmed as to the payload capacity of the M2 and the internal fuel??
But, the performace of M2 was superb at the sho, whith its climg on low level , like what MKI performed last time, but a step ahead of them.

and the report from frontline

thanks fo the heads up blackcat…cool video…however notice the aft of the carrier is still not shown…know of any pics of her rear man…also would like to know whether there was any time spent by the yak-44 on the VICK …this would give info if the yak-44 did fit into the hanger…. :diablo: thought of a wild idea :diablo: is it possible to widen the hangar on the aft section above the props..a la enterprise…i know it will interfere with the trapping of the aircraft ..but makes a suitable place to keep the aew…. š
hermes š
But u can see many pic of the carriers butt and in here there are a lot of pic of Gorshy …… Yak-44 has not yet come to life, its just in the mock up form, but if we take the initiative with the Russians it cud be a reality by 2010 and I believe it has to be our future carrier based AEW solutions. Abt E-2 or Yak-44 gettin on the Gorshy wud remain first on the a/c ability to take-off w/o an catapult and then the lifts ability to accomodate it and the Hanger size and height (in the case of Yak-44, its 7 m tall).
BTW, intrested in discussing Yak-44 ?? here is one thread for Yak-44 … Yak-44 AEW&C
BTW, it aud have been good if the MiG-29Ks were able to have their weapon hardpoints increased from the current 8, like the MKI’s multi-racks.
The large boats mentioned will be retained as can be seen from the models, i see no reason for it not to be retained. Also if u look at the Kiev class starboard side of the island, u’ll find additional boats in that area. so guess, Gorshkov after upgradation might also have some of these, as the widened deck on that side dont seem like wud aid in dragging the ka-29/31 from the foresection to the rear quarter. Also to be noted is that there are two cranes that have retained their position, so its mostly for lowering the stuffs, which also include that boats.

again one more nice pic of the Varuna Exercise …….. I’m looking for a very good image of that exercise, in which the CDG is flanked (actually CDG is in centre) by Indian and French ships numbering more than 8, that pic was shown by the French chief at the press conference. If u have got it or seen it online, plz do post it.
Austin,
Surely PJ-10 is a leathal one, but we need lighter missile which is also leathel as the PJ-10 at the final stage for lighter tonnage ships and subs which don have VLS. And thats what Klub family fill-in very neatly. We cannot do away with that missile and ned to have that too included in the joint development and in house programe.
Also, if we take a good look at the sub-sonic land attack variant, we can see its the smallest, now think what we can enlarge it in sise to that of 3m-54e ???…. it wud most likely mean largr fuel , which translate into say a very long range land-attack cruise missile, say 1000+Km. And I very much think that range is possible from a developemt of the land-attack variant.
Also, I am of the view that we are not doing good with only investing in PJ-10, I’d say Brahmos Aerospace shud rather invest in development and marketing of Klub family and the Uran(ium) so that we have 3 missiles to market…… and if u ask me if we sud sell PJ-10 missiles to other countries, my reply wud be only NEGATIVE, if its been under mine control, it wud have been – NEVER.
rather we shud concentrate on marketing a 290Km Uranim, as sub-sonic missiles too have their efficiency and the Klub series (on to those very trusted) Personally i’m not in favour for marketing these outside, even if that may earn us good amount, the cutoff shud be Klub family at the Extreme end.
IL-76 is a known platform and has commanalities with with what Aviation Research Centers ELINT squadron. Phalcon was the best system avaliable to us. Perhaps boeing could have been used, may be the Russian political pressure.
Its good to have a friendly alternative like ERJ. I guess its best suited for ops that are in the mid segment. Something to go between an ELINT and a Full fledged AWACS.
IL-76 is aknow platform, but if we are for a 24×7 coverage of the entire -hot – airspace, its the least suitable unless we have more than enough air-frames.
And probably u did not get as to y i did not mention abt the Boeing, its just coz, of the fact that Chinese get to ses from their presedential a/c. And thats the least that I’d like to have in a strategic asset like AWACS. And neither wud Boeing have given the necessary ‘items’ to the Russian for a Bowing based Russian AWACS for India.
Now since the Isreali’s have gained a lot after crying abt Russia not cooperating with the IL-76, expect a future Isreali UPGRADE PACKAGE for the Il-76 for all those Ilyushins operating around the world. And thats a very good market to lay ones hands on. Also expect India to get the first proposal for the same in the future. I’d be very much happy to see that not happening and getting me proved wrong.
any one got any more info on the Yak-44???…also any pics of the inside of the Yak-44 mock-up?? ….. Ken …. ? … Art, did u ever got a chance to peep in?
Paul,
was there nill development in terms of systems and airframe of the Yak-44???….. has they carried out any windtunnel tests etc etc ??
BTW, there is time till 2010, and if the development can start now, i dont thinh it wud be a bad idea to expect the Yak-44 after 2010. But the carrier hanger shud be larger for the same.
BTW guys, what do u think abt the Yak-44’s ability to take-off with its powerful engines from an unassisted angled flight deck like that of Gorshkov and Kuzentzov??
Iranian,
India picked MiG-29K last Jan. But what i was mentioneing abt the Yak-44 is that it has to be the future for the Indian services carrier borne and cost effective land-based AEW&C solution. And I stand by that.
hey grr8 pic there man, tks….. well I’m also searching for the place where the CDG , Nimitz (does they?), Kuzentzov carry their boats. The current INs carrier, INS Viraat (if am not wrong) has got 2 each of them hanging on both sides of the deck in a lower position.
Some notes on Seabird
On 4th Dec 2004, Navy Day, INS Sutlej, I.N.’s hydrographic and survey vessel became the first INS to enter the Project Seabird, though earlier some other vessels have been visiting the area. Project Seabird which lies at 13 km from the Goa border will be rechristened INS Kadamba or INS Vijaynagar in acordance with the Kannada culture, when commisioned.
The Phase-I of the Seabird project is to provide berthing space for 11 ships while the master plan is for 42 ships and 42 yard crafts. The master plan was originally sanctioned by the committe on Political Affairs in 1985.
But the Original Phase-I, was an enlarged plan in scale from the present Phase-I, as it entitled for berthing 22 ships and 21 yard crafts. This was scaled down later-on in the 90’s due to lack of funds, time and resources, as is common with any Indian military project.
The shiplift & ship transfer system was to be commisioned in Feb 2005, this would be the unique aspect of the project Seabird. This has been constructed by Syncrolift Inc (U.S.A) under consultation of an Australian firm
The On-shore work are executed by L&T, Nagarjuna Constructions, BHEL and Bridge & Roof with the consultant being Mecon Ltd. The resedential area of the project caters for 5,000 and the Navy is also undertaking afforestation of the area with 901 hectres being afforested at a cost of Rs1.77 crore. A Naval Air Station will come up in the area, 24 Km from the Base Office, which will station both fixed and rotary winged aircrafts.

Another one being that the Kochi is to get a new port, so hope everything is shifted out from the current place and that entire place is given to the Southern Naval command, so that from the punny little jetty that the SNC have now can also be enlarged to include the merchies jetties and also to acomodate more ships. This will also help the ‘outsiders’ to berth outside and way out of view from the SNCs jetty. BTW, Indian media (national) never coverd the French Spy case, which involved a French vessels surveillance of the ocean, even though CBI was there in France couple of months ago to extradite the guys who was let off earlier. Also involved in that was an MLA from the area.
Another one is that its way too much time that the Gunnery school get some AK-630 or Kashtans or lighter stuffs, but which is better than what they have now. Atleast I’ve not yet seen any of the guns hitting the target, except for making me almost deaf when all the guns open up to fire (though not to the fullest) as the culmination of the fire power display… maybe the IN don’t want to show how good their gunnery students are.
Flex,
got any remarks for Pro mechanica, Cosmos and others ??
can some one tell me how the antenna is arranged inside the ‘T’ section??…. mean the Boeings MESA
I’m expecting 2 on the sides, and on top howz it arranged?? …. another 2 back to back for front and rear coverage??…. also how much is the dimension of the entenna inside. Does it also have additional antenna in the nose??
Brute,
I don want to argue abt that now, but there are many more to that issue, but is the Boeings MESA an AEW ???
If at all, AWACS, has to be utilised to the fullest, then IL-76 as a carrier is not that good, I’d have loved it to be based on an IL-96-400 (10,000+ Km) or A-340-500(15,000+ Km), so that endurance doesn’t become an issue.
BTW, u must have read the above quote abt the Korean’s preference for the MESA over the ELTAS (hopefully PHALCON?)
Maj. Gen. Won Jang-hwan, the Defense Ministry’s chief procurement office, said a meeting next week would decide the future of the project. He said the Air Force had conducted three-month tests on the two companies’ aircrafts since last September. During the tests, it discovered that the IAI ELTA aircraft fell short of requirements. The IAI ELTA AEW&Cās radar detection range is the requisite 200 nautical miles (about 370 km), but only if the aircraft’s radar makes repeated searches of the area.
Its also good news that CABS has restarted the project but the halting of the whole project was coz of the vested intrests and I’d put my theory abt the same in some earlier threads.
Some more speculative work …. with 16 x MiG-29Ks on the deck. This was created on the basis of the two figures which showed the a/c parked in two different ways. So I combined it to create a larger airwing. š

BTW, wud the parking of MiG-29Ks going to hinder the landing aid that lies in front of it???….. well not sure, but it also in good size as can be seen from the pic, so maybe the pilots wud be able to see it atleast as near as 5-10 m from the edge of the deck, if not, its better to take one more chakkar.
