Some slight corrections: AFAIK the basic passenger variant is the Il-96 300 with Russian engines and avionics. The Il-96 400 is the cargo version of the same.http://www.airliners.net/info/stats.main?id=253

IL-96-400 designation came only after the IL-96M & Tcame to an end after the US affair came to the close. As of now no users and its unfortunate that the Russians can’t finance it so, they opt for B-777s . Its also another fact that Ilyushin had worked for Boeing for the B777’s interiors and Russians Boeing divison is contributing to the development of the 7E7 too. Again its the Russians who is working and worked for the only new generation a./c that Boeing produced – B777 or like the guys say, the computers in air.

here is a pic from the Ilyushin site with some of my write-ups

from the fig it seems like the frame gets fire very quickly ??? ….and maybe the case with B-2s too?

the frame after crash look more like the condition of the F-117 after it was shot down. So does that means that the service persons are gonna see dead bats too in the hanger???…. for the reasons other than whats officially mentioned by the UASF for the dead bats?

yep I guess, so….. and MiG-25 in itself was a big tension.

    Garry,

I guess that 18-20 ton wil come with Al-41 (not the derated one that was tested on the Su-3x?) recently. So that means a high altitude supercruiser with a god strike load. Now thats what I’d like to see. Enter the area and strike and get out at high altitude and supercruise.

I hope a sqadron of of MiG-31 divided into 8 each oper team wud be able (in the case of Indian one) to take care of the launchers from the other side. Like
    4 x Strike weapons + AAM (R-37?)
    2 x refuellers + AAM
    2 x ECM & Tracking pods + AAM

abt the strike weapons u guys wud be able to file the better choice … for such a mission.

Now this is a modest one as I believe the initial one wud be good enough as i don expect to get more than 20 launches from the other side at a time. So by the time these chaps are ready to exit, another 2 teams from the second sqadron can get-in with full strike load. Now that wud also say that I wud have liked to see a couple of sqadrons of these high alt recc & strikes a/c.

well , the Indian MKI fear isn’t helping either….. or did the Raptor went up thinking the flanker threat ……

BTW h much do u guys think this will affect the ‘induction’ of the F-22 to USAF service?

Really good news. So hope the IL-96 gets more orders. I’d also like to see it in IAF’s fleet of refuellers, as for the passenger version of the same, it had a range of 10,000+Km with a payload of 92 tonnes or nearly 350 passengers (if am not worng abt the no of pass).

The IL-96-400 (which is the passenger version of the 96T) is powered by (or when it finds a customer, to be frank) PS-90A2 engine, which is most efficient variant of the PS-90 series of engines

That wud mean that the tankers cud go further than the current IL-78 or stay lobger in the air. It wud also been good if it has been chosen as the base for AWAC&S by the IAF.

IL-214 and Tu-330 is not in the same league. Tupolev is targetting the IL-76 with their Tu-330 and I don think thats a good option. But it also compete good with the A-400. MTA/IL-214 is in the laegue of An-32 and Herc with 20+/- category.

Mig-20M2 cannot carry 6500kg, no way. Not sure about F-18C/D’s

Yes, it do , and thats the official one. I fail to understand Y the janes and the report on AICG which is from janes, carry that 4,500 Kg as payload. Even the MiG’s site has that figures. I had asked the same to the RAC-MiG and Jenna 😉 (if I correctly rem that name) on behalf of the now ousted (if am not wrong) chief designer of the M2 project gave me the figures as 6,500 Kg of weapons load and specifically said its not 4,500Kg, in reply to my querry. Even the SMT-II can get on with 5,500 Kg of load, from the mere 3,000+Kg earlier.

But was dissapointed as i got negative reply for any further increase in payload and inturn said abt the wingtip hardpoints too for weapons if required.

    Ankush,

I dont think the IN actually ever favoured the Rafale-M except for the western media and the same stuffs pulled in by the Indian media.

An Indian Navy, who had to settle in for a 38,000 t carrier (while I believe we need far more capable one) anbd even finding the funds hard to come for its project wud have in any practical way though abt acquiring the Rafales. I term it as the media generated Intrest.

if ever that is true, then u can can cool down, coz the mothballed Buran shuttle which had withstood the hardest times of the Russian criss, finally was lost to the ‘mysterious’ (or the normal one for the west) collapse of the hanger after the Europeans showed intrest in that and also started the maintaiance of the same in 2001.

And i did not knew that Energia booster had such a role too. Nice one indeed.
