I’d say wait for either the Indo-Russian MTA based on IL-214 or the Russian Tupolev Tu-330. 🙂

Listen, it took IAF 12 years to make up their mind between Jag, Viggen and F-1 in 1978, 20 years to pick AJT and somebody thinks they’ll pick-up 125 fighter aircrafts in two years?

WIthin three years only IAF and NAF will be the one flying Jags, and IAF will start facing the same spare-part problem as they are facing with Migs. France withdrew its Jag forces two years ago and HAL is still manufacturing these old beasts. In reality, IAF has one two many fighter aircrafts in its invesntory and they should work on dismentaling few of its aircrafts rather than dreaming about 45 sqds or more. They should have only Su-30, Mig-29, and LCA (if it bears fruit) supported by 30 Mirage 2000 by the year 2010.

    No flame intented.

    Fully Agree!

Its time for IAF to think ahead, but then I gaurantee that there won’t be any outcry and heavy media dossages like what the MiG-21 got, for the Jaguar. We still don’t have the design of the a/c and the sapres surely is gonna create headache. We also need to end the chapter of the MiG-21 and the recent spares ‘initative’ made in India with its number-plating.

But Jags will continue to be the one out-lawed with their engines as well, as MiG-27 might get off with an Al-31 so maybe that side won’t worry much till its number-plating.

I’d say going ion for a Tu-204 based patrol a/c wud be the best one. Anyway we’d need 30 and more in numbers in future for patrol, so go in for these and also make it available for IAF’s VIP fleet and others . It will also gaurantee that we get a good share of work but free gadgets wont be there as the Chiese found out for their presedential a/c. Maybe the guys in w.d.c & pg though abt visual and audio treats from the chinese side …..

They need to manage it a bit more properly, but then it wont be good either if they pull all the heavies out quick of service, else many piles around the areas too wud raise their heads, so have to keep these untill the new small but powerful corvettees (Pocket Destroyers) take on duty in good numbers, and thats what Russia need to concentrate on for keeping off anyone having any dreams on the high seas.

I guess the 4000nm for these corvettees with 12 x Klub or Yakhont SSM is good enough for now untill the pocket gets better to pull out many a dream projects which had to lay low.

Someone can clarify if the solid-state stuffs mentioned is actually abt the aesa.

In the mid-1980s, Salyut launched developmental work on the Podberyozovik-E radar and some time later, a number of solid-state C-band radar systems were developed.

NO NEED, to say the least!

India shud rather concentrate on its TRISHUL and make it VL launched rather than funding the Isreali’s Barak. I guess Indian’s are very short-sighted with very short memory …… Forgot that the western media bashing etc etc all had given trishul given such a grand ‘credit’ that it wud be there for long. And the only beneficary of that bashing was the one who made it into the Indian Navy service in place of Trishul.

SO WHAT has to be done is CONCENTRATE ON Trishul and develope it fully.

Also is there a need to seperate the Isreali’s from ‘penetration’ with the Lahat, Russia had to wait for 2 years for protecting its products from the obvious two usual suspects, but shamefully and surprisingly , India had already signed it with US already and that was as early as when the two sides had conducted its first joint exercises.

I hope you realise that setting records was the last thing the Blackbird was designed to do, right? I mean for what other people meant “shattering records”, for the Blackbird it was routine operational flight.

One of the prime reasons for the retirement of the Blackbird was the high cost of operating and maintaining them. 9 out of 10 reasons for the closure of any military program in the world is “politicians”.

what i meant by that shattering the to be written ‘records’ was that —— the SR-71 did not ever went down to enemy fire.

As is what America publishes in every bit of media to the world audiance. And I think they say that for the SR-71 too, like they do for F-15, F-16 and F-14 …. but many immatutred ones pull up that figures to argue abt an a/c performance.

No Blackat, the USSR Black Sea fleet could (and did) transit easily to the Mediterranean, including their carriers. Technically they were classified as Cruisers (Aircraftt Carrier Cruisers to be more precise) 😉

Of course, in a time of war, and being Turkey in NATO, the straits would be closed to them,

Yes, and the treaty is what moulded the Soviet a/c carrier development as what it was (in addition to others) …. a/c carring cruisers, and that was made to ‘slip’ in through the clause of the treaty and channel.

But surely if at all Unkil wud want to have a campaign (and the on going one to encircle Russia fully) in support of their Kid in Georgia anytime in future, they wud definetely have to bring in the carriers or other heavies and for that to happen, UKRAINE is a MUST in that STRATERGY!

Else, U loose the ‘strategic depth’ in that area.

That will also tell u the Western driven street democrazy in Ukraine. I’d hope Yankovich wins it, else I’d like to see real Autonomy coming for Eastern Ukraine. Llet the West come in for rescue of the western part to make up for the loss of 82% of GDP that the Industralised Eastern side contribute to the Ukranian economy.

The buffoon, my friend, is you. With your needless assertions and silly categorizations. HAL can churn out a higher number of a/c. Who’ll pay for them? You? The IAF pegged the number at 14 per year in proportion to how many they can afford both monetarily and logistically. Thats a Sq a year. With other a/c like the MRCA on the cards as well to be delivered and then the LCA. Think of the manpower requirements alone.

well frankly I don mind that Baffoon stuff ……. But I fail to get ur view of the ‘rationality’ of churning out 14 a/c over the next 10 years when the opponent camp wud have multiples of our a/c numbers (and frankly I don wanna hear the regularly repeated BS abt Quality over Quantity) …… and I say that 14 per year is not at all a matured outlook , if no funds is there, make available it, as for the question for if am gonna pay??….. yes as an Indian tax payer, definetely I am paying and I want results.

now plzzzzz don bring in the ‘non-availablity’ of funds, coz ….. my view always has been and will be abt the …… National waste ‘Forex reserve’ the only benefitary of which is the Unkil as we are cushioning off their intrests rates by dumping in half of the $130billion (or say lending America $60+Billion) for 2-3 percent, when our own treasury wud have fetched us 6-7 percent. The result, the Americans get a loan for much cheaper rates where by they get it and dump it in India with big FANFARE as FDI, where as the poor Indians fail to understand that its at their daily ‘costs’ that the Govts keep the Rupee devalued for the Videshi babus to ‘RESCUE’ the third world nation.

so either use it for national purpose (where by a an increased Defence budget won’t hurt other areas) OR take the chains off the Rupee so that it can gain its value to post ‘Liberalisation’ levels or atleast bring it up to 30 Rupees to a dollar.

On another Note, Always remember that an Indian pays Rs 40 per Litre of Petrol where as an American pays 2-3 dollars for a Gallon of GAS. And what the Govt tells is that ‘its still below international value’, as 2 dollars means nearly 90 Rupees. But what the INDIAN’S fail to understand is that, the American’s value for a Gallon of petrol is as much as what an Indian’s value is for a 3-5 Rupee item.

well got not much time to go into detail typing, so am not plunging it to it now. But 14 a/c per year and 1 missile per month is a JOKE, atleast the second one. I wud digest the 1 missile per month if they were talking abt an ICBM.

ARE WE SOOOOO UNPRODUCTIVE AND UNCOMPETATIVE????
