I think Airpower Australia is a joke when it comes to anything fighter related.

He is quite exaggerated but he gives technical data no other open source in the net supplies. It must be acknowledged the PAK-FA is a huge leap forward for the Russian Aviation Industry. In the West we always ear some Neocon big talkers saying again and again “Russia is not able to develop AESA” (Wrong!); “Russia is unable to develop a 5th Generation Fighter” (Wrong again!) and so on.

These Neocon big-talkers seems living in the past, i.e in the 1990s 😎

They’re so blinded by their rabid desire for the F-22 that it’s almost sad.

Agreed! He really hates the F-35.:o Anyway it should be better for the U.S to trade i.e. 200 F-35 by 100 more F-22 to obtain a better heavyweight–lightweight mix. The current proposal is really unbalanced.

These kind of statements/articles have no news value, its just a phrase, the meaning of the phrase ‘human intelligence’ is nowhere explained. Someone throws a new phrase, media goes wild on it.

This is known in the west as AI (‘artificial intelligence’). Nothing really new. Just a lot of software lines.

Sounds a bit risky to build another brand new sub before haveing goten the Bulava straight, no? Or maybe its just me…

    Agreed

In the highly unlikely but lets say possible scenario of Bulava SLBM failing , they will convert the YD class in to SSGN for LACM and anti-CBG/anti-ship operation.

The current Oscar-2 class SSGN will not last long and they will need follow on quality replacement.

The Yasen is designed for such a mission. Better to invest in one more Yasen than in another Borey, at least until Bulava works.

I wonder if is time to think in 5th generation interceptors rather than in 6th generation fighters. I always ear statements like “interceptors are beast of the past” but is a fact that
5th generation fighters (F-22, F-35, T-50, J-XX) have an “offensive bias” since are designed to penetrate on enemy airspaces to hit hard and fast.
How should be a 5th generation interceptor able to deal with the above mentioned fighters? I just imagine some specifications:
    – Mach 2+ supercruise w/o after-burners.
    – Mach 3+ top speed.
    – 25.000+ m ceil.
    – VLO in the A-A aspect.
    – Long-range ultra-manœuvrable missiles (multiple seekers on missiles ?).
    – Very high power-aperture X-band AESA radar and a L-band tracking capable radar (?).
    – Long range IRST

“a more conservative design than F-22”

    Something like a twin-engine F-35 ?

By the time they have a working, reliable 5th gen bird the other side will be deep into 6th gen, maybe unmanned.

Sorry to be such a killjoy but …

U.S is in no shape to face a 6th gen program. You know, falling GDP, huge debts, cronical deficits, a diminishing position in the global arena, two endless wars… Americans pilots will be very happy if F-35 come according to promised numbers.

Guess he never heard of GBI. And it covers a HELL of a lot more area than a single city.

    GBI = National ABM defense.

S-500 wil be a point ABM defense. Anyway, to think in a National umbrella for Russia is just insane. You will need a lot of GBIs and stil face big holes in your National umbrella.

It is more rational to deploy some ABM batteries over key strategic points (i.e. Moscow, Kola and some ICBM fileds) and obtain the same result.

Looks like S-500 SAM will be mobile anti-ICBM system.

May be, but still will need to be linked to the LPARs net.
