I was flicking through a book last night and it suddenly occured to me what an attractive aircraft it is- are there any left?- seems like a nice project for someone!!
Oxcart,
There are no complete airframe’s I do know of a wing section and tail section that is in private hands in Japan and there is reports of a few in China. I know the group that is working in the Solomons have this on their list of things to see if they can find.
Hi Cee’s
I can speak on the XC-108, don’t forget it started out life as a B-17E so restoring it back to a E model make since to me on the simple factor that they plan on touring with it and calling it a XC-108 only us aircraft nutts:p would know what it is.
Its the same thing with the CAF LB-30 being brought back to the B-24A which it was originally.
So let me restate the question then:D Is there any legal reason why none of these aircraft have not been gone after, I do understand that allot are buried in the mud and are only can be scene at certain times. But my god I would have a field day with all these different crash site. Just think of the Museum that you could build around the planes in the THAMES.
Maybe I’ll have to check up on UK Laws about underwater recovery’s they can’t be any worse then the United State Navy’s:diablo: 😮
A lot of interesting info. in this newspaper report. Not sure how close Scorpion is to the action, but the betting is that only N7316C will migrate eastwards.

Newforest.
Lets just say I’m rather close tot he action;) 😀 , As for 16Charlie, let me explain how bad she is if you go back up and look at the photos I posted, Charlie is the one with out the Left Side Engines, also the whole cockpit are has been stripped as has the FE station. Charlie also might have a spar crack also Hotel does that I know since I was the one who discovered it on a inspection some 10 Years ago we never really looked at Charlie because we were decide that 74R would be the best Flying aircraft.
I’m not sure what the new owners are going to do, other then get one flying. I’m happy to hear that they are going to rebuild it in Auburn its a very fitting to all of us who have been around them for the past 20+ Years. While I don’t live in Maine anymore I do get back up there at least once a month. I plan on stopping by when they get the Hanger build.
Richard thanks for the photo of 74R in Sanford the paint scheme at the time was the Old Cargo Colors she had on. If you noted #2 is feather and the big Buffalo looking thing was either the Old Start Cart or the Fuel Car. If the photo is from Feb, of 93 then we were doing some maintance on her. The reason we ended up in Sanford was because we had a runway on #2 and and right side Bus Fire in the cockpit.
As for the Scheme on it now it was what it had on it towards the end of its Days with Lufthansa.
C-123 Cat House was sold tot he Air America Group in Tico Florida
Helldiver perhaps!?!
Hope the USN is not after him now for “theft of government property”!!!
Yea we have a winner, this aircraft is a early SB2C-2 all the junk you see sitting is what is left of the tail this one came down after the pilot got lost and put it into some tree’s.
As for the ownership thing no problem you see all the stuff that Mr. Webster has recovered over the years have come from Private Land owners.
So who wants another one:diablo:
Brewster Bermuda/Buccaneer?
or perhaps
beer cans waiting to be made?:D
No not one of the Bermudas but it was build under contract by Brewster.
Three companies…how about an Avenger?
Sorry Mr. Boyle but the TBF/TBM was only build by Grumman and Eastern Aircraft.
I know, It’s a Douglas Devastator. I recognise the fin now.
Good God No if it was A TBD I would be very rich right now, but I’ll give you this its a Naval Bomber that was build by three different company,s another part of the clue is go back tot he first quize and look. Oh and yes the FAA/RN flew them also.
It’s got leading edge slats too… so probably not WWII. It’s too ******** up for me to tell though. Any more clues Rob?
Cheers,
Richard
Richard,
Its WWII an Flew out of Rhode Island, also they were build by three different companys.
Obviously a Douglas Skyraider.
Can’t you make these quizzes a little more challenging? 😀
So Sorry Sir but no not a Skyraider and yes I can make them harder if you like.
How about an F-6F, a Hellcat? (Taking the filename of the photo as a hint!)
Sorry but not a F6F
